5164a potential buy

Found this piece being sold at 31000$ without box and papers. Think it’s a good idea?

Not on a brand new watch. You’ll never be able to sell it.

No I would ask for a lower price and if you intend on selling it later, would be difficult to without box and papers. Is it a new piece or used even though it has the plastic wrapping? Is the seller able to prove when/where it was purchased because if it came with the certificate, it would have the AD name and date it was purchased.

im gonna hazard a guess and say its not the original stickers and its wrapped in clear plastic as most grey dealers do.... im also assuming its a grey dealer and its not brand new.....
If its brand new then something is def not right and what possible excuse can there be for a brand new watch not to have its box and papers if its all legit?

Thank you for your opinions. The watch is not brand new, the guy is a grey dealer and yes, for that much money i would expect the guy to at least have the paperwork. I'll just wait for my turn for a rose gold or steel from Patek directly, the savings don't seem to be that significant anyway.

I'd buy at a decent discount if it had extract from the archives with it.

IMO, the vast majority (would guess close to 99%) of new Patek/Rolex/AP that are without box/papers......are either stolen or fake. It makes absolutely zero sense otherwise. Again, not speaking for vintage, but all new offerings. Why in the world would you spend what other people spend on an automobile, then toss the papers/box? Of course there will always be exceptions, but this would be a gross outlier. Majority of people keep their warranty paperwork, even for $1k electronics.

Generally, if it is an older piece, I might overlook the fact that there is no box/papers. However, for new, I would insist on both. In the end, it is a GREAT piece and if you must have it, ask the seller for a better price to compensate. Just my gut talking here...

No papers on a modern watch is a deal breaker for me. Too many suspicious possibilities for a watch like that.
