SS Sub Authenticity

Hi All,

First post, please excuse if I am not posting in the right section. I recently purchased a SS Sub from a local reseller but beginning to become concerned with the authenticity. The serial number is registered as 1978 but the model number is 16610. No box, no papers and Rolex service in NY has no service history. Could anyone shed some light as to what could have happened or should I start trying to work on a refund with the seller?

Thank you!

Verified through the Bob’s Watches page, model year came back to 78.

I think the mystery may be solved, repulled the band and under more clear light it looks like a “5” has been mistaken for an “S” by both myself and seller. Sigh of relief on my end, thanks for taking a look everyone.

Hello, 16610s production started in 1987, maybe what you have it is a ref. 16800 with a later service dial. Please check the stamped reference number between the lugs.

Certainly NOT a 1978. That's for sure.
