I had a Santos that my grand mother gave me, but it was quartz era and small so I don’t wear it, very cool design, but the Octo is interesting in that it was Gerald Genta which designed it, and it is quite an interesting watch, I agree that Bulgari is not generally the same level as Cartier though they are catching up it seems. Anyways between these two I think I would go with them, but both are cool watches

Cartier Santos midsize wins hands down IMO. Bvlgari is cool but I prefer a timeless classic and for me the santos gets the nod

For the likes of either brand, both are fashion accessories that borrowed movement from other companies within the parent; Richmont or LVHM. as far as Santos or octo, if you truly want a revolutionary watch, die to the design changes and management, bvlgari octo-finissimo have won a number of awards in the recent year, where as, we have not had seen much changes under the hood of a Santos.

Just caught you updated picture. While I am still going with the Cartier history and potential servicing issues and lower cost with Cartier (about 300) (quote me if I am wrong), the Octo actually in picture suits you much better on your risk in regards to it’s shape, lugs, and dial. #Gowithwhatyoufeel #ForSure Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I prefer the new and updated Santos. Dressy enough but can be sporty.

Update on the watch decision. As you all know I was undecided about which watch out of the Bulgari Octo and the Cartier de Santos ...it was a hard decision. I really love the look and fit of the Octo, it is such a unique watch that really stands out, I really like it. The Cartier is iconic and looked amazing on my wrist and I feel would be a great piece to hand down to one of my daughters eventually. So in the End I chose this beauty ........ I got the Grand Seiko SBGR311 limited with the brown dial. It seriously made me forget about the others and now my collection is complete!

Jesting aside, that's a nice looking watch. I don't have a Grand Seiko myself, I don't know if I ever will get one, but I respect those who love them. |

I can absolutely compered that purchasing decision when buying a flexible sporty type daily wear understated dress watch. With me I ended up with looking for a grand seiko and ended up with a DJII, just because the GS 3 years back, and still is, tough to source in the UK at a good price including looking at preown market. I love the limited editions GS and most likely the next piece if I can get around 20% off list or I’ll just have to pop over to Tokyo. Likes of eBay and chrono has much better selecting in the U.S. also. This is still a great choice indeed and the G and S intricacy must be an amazing dial live. Enjoy! I think that the GS looks better on your wrist than the Santos or Octo.
Sometimes it’s love at first sight, sometimes it’s a struggle. Hope you enjoy it! |

Thanks! I totally agree...when I tried the GS on it was literally a no brainer. I struggled so much choosing between the Octo and Cartier that it should have been apparent that I should get neither.

Love the Bvlgari octo. Is this designed by Gerald Genta? The design expressions are typical to the legendary designer.

For anyone who's tried on the Bvlgari, how did you find the weight? I've heard they're super light and some are put off by that.

The octo was not designed by gents himself. However, the octo was inspired by the design from genta. There have been articles flying around stating that genta did design Bulgari’s (Bulgari Bulgari) collections. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Yes, it is very light. The weight, or lack of it did not bother me. If I were buying an Octo, it would be on a strap. I really did not like the look or feel of the bracelet.
