Rolex Serial Numbers

Can someone tell me can you tell the year of a modern Rolex Watch by the serial number. I know that modern Rolex Watches have random serial numbers but can you tell the year of the Watch by them

With the new random numbers, the only way to tell is by the sale date noted on the warranty card.
This is of course the day it was sold, and not the day of manufacture....

Thanks everyone who replied I thought that would be the answer. Would a Rolex Service Centre be able to tell maybe from markings on the mechanism

Rolex Service Centre can tell the date of the watch from the random serial number, it's just the general public who cannot.

Thank you so the Rolex Service Centre it is there is a bit of confusion what year my Daytona is although I bought it on the third of this month & the Warranty Card is stamped signed & dated 16/3/2017 & it's a 116503 which Rolex only started producing in 2016 I just want to make sure it's a 2017 Model

RSC may not give out the date info you are looking for, and there is probably no difference between a 2016 and 2017 model. With that date stamp, yours was quite likely assembled in 2016 anyway.

X2. Doesn't matter. Just go by card date. It's when warranty starts. Watches aren't like cars. Won't hurt it to just sit a year in the case. Other mfgrs watches sit a long time. I know the AP I purchased sat for 2-3 years before I bought it. Didn't bother me at all.
