Clasp Question
Hello everyone,
I did look on the forum before posting however I could not find my answer. I am looking at buying a clasp for my gmt ii 16710, my current clasp is on a rubber B and I wanted to get another clasp to go on my oyster (or vice versa) I came across the claps you see on the pictures, it was looking like my 78790a so I asked for more picture and I see it is stamped 93250 ... I am confused. I googled the serial and it comes back saying it came from a SD, then some say from a sub bracelet ... I don't read anything on GMT II I noticed the clasp is stamped CL which means it was produced Jan 2004 is it that Rolex then changed to 78790 bracelet ? I thought subs had a longer clasp overlap, 3 section instead of 2 as the GMT has My biggest question is , will this fit my my oyster bracelet ? sorry if this is silly question but I am too new to the Rolex game Thanks !100.jpg 101.jpg |

That is a frankenclasp. You are correct that in 2004, the 93250 clasp would have been on a Sub Date 16610. Yet the upper portion of that clasp is clearly not from a 93250 (Sub) buckle. It would have been on a GMT or Explorer (I or II)....with bracelet reference 78790A, 78360, or 78690.

thanks, that is what I thought. and yes it does look like a frankenclasp hehe
I was actually looking to the upper part of the clasp, which is probably for a gMT ii or explorer. If I was to polish it slightly , I could use that top part to replace mine, remove the rivet and do a swap. |

Don't listen to members directions.. Only one thread in one Forum, not multiples throughout.. The other one will be merged with this one.
As to your question, all GMT and Explorer II watches were available with the "Sub" bracelet 93150 version until the ceramics were released.. These clasps need the internal extra link and extension to be practical, and even more so with the 93250 Sub Date bracelet (which was not put on the GMT) that needed the j-link and "circle" link to make them whole. The 78790 and 78790A (SEL) were available on the GMT II and the Explorer II.

thanks for the advice @Tools
here is the size he sent me, I am only interested in the top part of the clasp, as I will use to put on a 78790 folding blade, will that size work with a GMT II bracelet/base clasp if I was to take it apart? 3 size2.jpg GMT II friends how does the crown look, is it similar to your ? the points on the crown seem very round and thick, is it how it is looking like before any polish is done ? 4 top crown2.jpg thanks everyone for your help ! |

As somebody has mentioned, that clasp shell is not from a 93150 or 93250. These clasps have a longer shell and 8 adjustment holes on the sides.
There are no identifying marks on the clasp shell and so the best you can to is compare it to what you have. Blades are 15.5mm to fit inside the clasp shell with rivets.

Thanks Larry for your msg. I had figured that the shell didn't belong to the 93150/93250 blades. Which in one way is good as I was only looking for the shell to go on my GMT 16710.
from the blades measurements you just shared, they should fit. I was more thinking of the rivet and link that goes on one hand. I read online that a gmt clasp is 16.5mm - however the only Rolex I found online that have 5 adjustment hole with a crown like this are explorer and GMT therefore I am still wondering if this clasp shell will work for my restoration - still need some input Can I get some insight on the crown too, what do you guys think of the round points on it compare to another yours ? is it how they look when they never been polish, I can't find some material on it - Thanks |

I would say that somebody may have hammered the crown from the inside to bring up the detail.
