Some people don't seem to realize that the final value fee is capped at $750. I wouldn't be surprised if eBay worked with the seller on this one. I have seen a situation like this in the past, where the seller described the process on a message board. Can't find the thread now.

I agree w Dan. While eBay is not perfect, it’s also not Sotheby’s.
The seller gives near zero written description and tells people “photos are description”, which is fine, but when you have an item north 100k with days left, eBay probably didn’t want to deal with possible resultant issues with a price this high.

+3% for PayPal with no cap. 5% PayPal if it is international.
And eBay fees are another 3% for international as well. I am not sure if the $750 cap is the same regardless of wether it is the domestic or the international rate.

I thought we were talking about eBay. Not about how payment would be made, which has nothing to do with eBay.

His four-page colour glossy flyer arrived at my house today. In town (Ottawa Canada) for two days December 7 and 8, setting up at a hotel and a recreation centre.

The flyer lists precious metal jewelry, coins, sports cards, vintage toys, medals, old banknotes, military, vintage advertising, comics, and watches (good Swiss brands) and pocket watches.

Good quality flyer. Lots of pictures.

I do not believe this is still accurate. It used to be capped but think that changed a year or so ago.

Do you mind posting a photo of the flyer, just out of curiosity?

Good one. He is doing a serious scoop, that's for sure.

You would not believe how much a lot of people will pay for 1980s comics, action figures, plastic toys, old Nintendo games, Lego....I could keep going. His ad says "pre-1970" but you can bet that both 70s and 80s are also big dollars for the right stuff. Not that old.

He currently has a robot similar to that one going for $600 with 2 days left in the auction, another transformer toy already over $1000 with 2 days left. Toys are a huge money maker.

Interesting. Didn’t come through my mailbox (in Ottawa too). Does he sell stuff at these shows or just buy?

also im my city today. I went this morning with 15k worth of watches, some coins and jewelry. Total offer 65 dollars.. yes you read this correctly.. 65 dollars.
Gentleman next to me had 3 watches, RCAF pilot and 2 working pocket watches offered 10 dollars for working pocket watches and 50 for the pilot watch. I could not interupt them because I was waiting on my valuation. Would have loved to see the pilot watch myself, I just overhead the conversation and offer.

WOW...$65 offer on 15k worth of goods? Did you go to the event just to see what they would offer?

I should go down tomorrow and get video of what he’s offer me for my 1680. This thievery should be exposed for what it is.

I took 7kg of silver ingots worth at the time £14000 and was offered £800 when I said thank you but no thanks the offer went up to £1200
The old man in front of me took a gold watch off his wrist and took £50 for it

It should not be allowed

There are some toy robots that sell in the $10k range. Use to be $20k, but they have cooled down.

Buying outfits have been doing this for 40 years.
You don't think they put a $10,000 full page ad in your newspaper for 2 days of buying because the pay top dollar do you?

I always wondered where some of the big vintage dealers bought there watches, I found out alot of them are buying from guys like this. They usually are looking for a quick flip.

The buyers themselves are often times hired hands, and not the most knowledgeable themselves. But at the prices they pay, the can afford to be fooled a few times.

Unethical, but if you don’t have any brains to do some basic research, or ask someone. Or get a couple of offers. Or go to a library, or watch pawn stars.... then you are responsible for the loss

I ended up taking the plunge on one of his Tudor Subs , recieved it and it was a pretty nice example, all original as far as i can tell except maybe the insert. The movement was in terrible need of a service tho as the date wheel wouldnt change at all. Sent it in to my watchmaker and contacted the seller asking him to pay for the service costs. Seller contacts me and asks for me to give him 2 days to think about it because he usually doesnt do partial refunds. Will update later with pics when i get it back .

Normally I would say asking him to pay for service costs is a little extraneous as the watches are clearly sold as is...

However, in this case, given how much of a scammer he is, I say carry on!
