Rolex 5513 Pre Comex
Hi Everyone
I am looking at buying a vintage sub 5513 Pre Comex, but have to admit it’s my first vintage buy so I am very nervous that I’m a novice and may stuff it up, I am looking at a 1977 pre Comex 5513. A few things that worry me and I would like to confirm are the below 1. Is this a pre Comex? 2. Is this a original dial or service dial to me it looks original but there is no patena which confuses me. 3. How would I know if it’s original bezel and hands or service aswell. 4. What was the original bracelet with this model? I don’t think it’s the original one. The watch just looks to clean for its age and that’s why I am turning to you experts for some advise. Also what do you guys think the right price is for this I obviously do t want to overpay |

It looks like a pre-comex dial to me. The photo is very saturated, so it's difficult to see colors. That said, I have seen a lot of dials from that era that don't develop much color on the lume plots, so my gut reaction is that the dial is ok. The bezel insert is a later replacement. Without better photos, it's very hard to say much about the hands, but I wouldn't assume they are original without seeing photos in natural light. You could also ask the seller to compare the response of dial and hands to UV light. I wouldn't worry to much about the bracelet tbh.

Looks very white, w/o a hint of patina...do you really want a pre Comex or just a 5513?

The bezel is certainly a service one, along with the hands most likely. Can't tell anything about the dial from these photos.

1. Yes it’s a pre comex 2. Dial can be original even tho its white without any patina 3. Bezel is a service one because of the thin font vs the supposed fat font. As for the hands, if it glows, then it should be luminova. If it’s doesn’t glow anymore, then it should be tritium, which is fine since it matches the dial. 4. Need to know code on bracelet to know if it’s original or near year of the watch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks guys what do you think something like this is worth I just don’t want to get ripped off, box and papers included. Does it lose allot because it is a service bezel

The bezel can always be replaced if it bothers you.

Yes. If you are comparing to a top-price piece, you should factor in the cost of a period-correct bezel insert. You should really do your own research on this, since I haven't been following insert prices, but the last time I looked, they were about $2k. If the hands are not tritium, that will also have a significant effect on price. Some people will disagree with me on this, but as a collector, I am personally not interested in an example with mis-matched hands and dial.

Hard to judge the quality of the watch with these pics and as quality is everything when it comes to price...
Service insert as said above. I think the clasp is a later replacement one (Fliplock shape) PS: box and papers are very nice but paying a huge premium for this is not something I would recommend in your position, I would rather focus on finding the best example my budget would allow me to find (beautiful Dial/case and period correct on every side). Come back with better pictures if you want some help from this forum. |

Hey guys checked it out today, in real life watch has a bit of patina but not much but put my hand over the dial and boom the only thing that was glowing were the hands so it saying they are Luminova.
So id say it’s original dial but service bezel and service hands. What do you guys think the price of a pre Comex like this is worth? |

Easy to find a comparable price online. Tons of 5513s for sale.
What is the asking price of this example? |
