The good old days..

Does anyone know what date this was sold?

https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/1...nt=22128463364

Can't believe this same watch now goes for 17k

I think the point the OP was trying to make is that in just a few years fuchsia 1675s have doubled, or more.

Whereas a 6542 bought new is obviously going to be astronomically worth more than its sticker price!

In 2008, preowned GMT 1675s from circa 1967-1970 sold for $2600-$3000 - whether it had a fuchsia or not. There was no premium for fuchsia GMTs until around 2012. Nice GMT 1675s have appreciated 500% or more for nice examples from 2008 until now.

No surprise there whatsoever!
This could not have been too long ago either. Maybe only 4-5 years ago.
1680 whites were still $5K at that time, reds around 10-11, Daytona at 29 for a sigma, and 34-35 for a big red, etc etc.
I remember people telling me I joined the vintage market too late when those were the prices.

I turned down the offer a mint Big Red from Jacek years ago at 16 grand, and later a very good Tudor Monte Carlo Homeplate at 17 grand, thinking the prices might come down. They've both gone stratospheric since.

Except for my orphan black TT 1675! It gets no respect! :)

Fortunately, I like it.

Luckily prices can continue to climb 20% per year forever. Right?

They may, or may not. But if you got in 10 years ago, you're probably alright whatever happens from here onward. Just sayin'.

$17k actually feels a bit low to me!

EDIT: I guess the crown guards do look a bit like play-doh...

That's what everyone said 10 years ago, and look where we are now. You won't know if it was too late until years from now. People said London real estate was expensive in the 1990s, but you'd be more than a millionaire now if you'd spent a couple of hundred grand then. The power of time is worth a fortune.

Hedge your bets and buy a nice watch without thinking of it as an investment, and just enjoy it. If it goes up, great. If it doesn't, you've got an awesome vintage piece on your wrist to pass on to future generations. It's win-win.

I don’t mind too much about the future value of my watches... I would simply have been delighted to acquire a beautiful fushia 1675 for less than 5k$!
