I thought about becoming a police officer a million years ago. Glad I didn’t choose that path though quite frankly. Thoughts and prayers for him and his family.

I was on my way too. Degree in criminal justice, police reserves while going to school here at UNLV when only 350,000 people live in town. I was going to parley the degree with law degree but after 1 year of law school But neither were for me I decided. No regrets

To echo some of the comments above, I too considered a career in law enforcement. Worked for the city police as a civilian while in college. Son of a police officer. No way in hell would I advise anyone to go into that line of work today. This insanity doesn’t seem to have an end to it. I’m grateful for those that protect us, but I couldn’t recommend it to anyone I love.

Police Officer Brian Shaw was shot and killed while making a traffic stop of a vehicle in the 1200 block of Leishman Avenue at approximately 8:00 pm Friday.

The driver fled on foot during the stop, then opened fire on Officer Shaw as he pursued him. Officer Shaw was fatally wounded in the chest during the foot pursuit. The subject continued to flee and remains at large.

Officer Shaw had served with the New Kensington Police Department for only five months. He had previously served as a part-time officer for three years with the Cheswick Police Department, Frazer Police Department, and Springdale Township Police Department.
