Beautiful... when we did our house we wanted white marble but chose light colored granite (white macauba). Look into it, we love it. Looks like marble...

Always neutral colors. Easy to decorate and if you need to sell one day, it's not impossible to do so.

Not sure of the area, but be careful about having trees and stuff so close to the house. I once had a job by the edge of the city, basically the county line. When the corn was high, the houses on the edges of the fields were always broken into. It was literally the same houses year after year, and this was in the midwest where crime was not a big thing.

House looks great. It can be stressful, but at the same time magical. When I lived in the US, the construction of my house and the first day I moved in was one of the most magical and happiest moments in my life. (maybe my life sucks, not sure haha)

Make sure to add Cat6 and wiring like everyone suggested. Might want to include a pull wire in every socket too. I also ran both gas and electric for the dryer and stove just in case I wanted to switch one to the other.

Great suggestions, Gregg. I'll incorporate anything that will make the house more sellable when the time comes.

Looking great Joey!
We went with engineered hickory flooring as well and love it for the toughness and warm feel.

We also did light colored quartz counters.

Keep us updated its looking fantastic

Brian, our cupboards are almost exactly like yours, only stained. Love the floors and countertops.

My brother, our contractor, built this lake "cabin" for a guy who owns a large sporting goods chain. His alder cupboards are more ornate than ours will be, but we are using the same color stain and distressed hickory flooring.

Indeed, those cabinets are gorgeous! Yours will be, too.

Went out to the construction site this afternoon. More progress on framing, as well as plumbing.

The view from the driveway, which is 330 feet long. The garage slab is on the left:

The Pelican River winds into Mill Pond in this view from the lower level family room window. Elevated about 35 feet above the river:

The garage (slab seen at right) hasn't been framed yet, but they finished the external sheeting today. A lot of dirt work remains. Contouring the land around the house. I'm not putting in a yard, just natural grasses and flowers. There will be a patio on the ground level and a screened-in porch on the upper level.

It has been great fun walking from room to room and getting an idea of flow and sizes. Even though we have computer generated walk-throughs of the plans, nothing beats standing in the rooms.

Looks great.

BTW, can't quite make out the "Watch Room" in your pics, but as you are a dedicated WIS, I am sure you are building one... like this...

We bought the two acre lot next to us to prevent anyone from building next to us. We had a bulldozer come in and take fill for around the house foundation from a cleared space between the trees on the second lot. In the spring, we will contour the land and plant wild prairie grass and flowers, as well as more evergreen and maple trees.

Beneath the topsoil is the glacial rubble layer, then a layer of pure sugar sand about 50 feet deep, which makes great fill. It doesn't freeze, compact, erode or shift. This is the spot we excavated for fill.

The driveway side of the house with the fill against the foundation. Before and after.

The river and pond side. They started on the upper screened-in porch. Roof trusses go up next Tuesday.

Good call getting the piece of land next to you also Can't wait to see how that looks when it's finished. Things seem to be coming along nicely

Beautiful home and property. Huge kudos for acquiring the lot next door. Looks like you'll never have drainage issues. A nice dry lower level!

Everything has been covered. Except the retractable master bedroom roof above the bed. But a hammock is cheaper. A hot water return loop is always nice.

The roof trusses came in yesterday. We picked exterior siding, soffits/fascia, exterior and interior doors, shingles and approved the cabinets and custom woodworking yesterday. It's like a deer super highway on the water side of the house.

The south side of the house:
