25K+ Smurf 116619LB for every day wear?
Hi forum,
I don't own (yet) but love the subtlety of the Rolex smurf, 116619LB white gold. It seems more subtle (due to lack of yellow shiny gold) to me. My question is, at such a price (25K+) would you be nervous wearing it every day if you could afford such a watch. Not worrying about it getting stolen. I like the notion of jeans and t shirt and what looks to most people like just a blue plain submariner. Of course, I wonder if I'd be so nervous to lose it or scratch it that I might not actually wear it daily. Your thoughts? |

Nope. Buy it, insure it, wear it, enjoy.

I know you're not worrying about it being stolen, but either way If it's a daily user, insure it. That issue is simple.
Otherwise, it depends on your lifestyle. In my line of work I often do physical work, handling equipment that's not so forgiving for watches. So for me, the answer is no. I wouldn't buy/own a $25k watch to use it every single day. I would however have no problem wearing a 116619 for all other activities life has to throw at you including, swimming, vacationing, playing at the park with my son and YES wearing jeans and a t shirt lol. Whether or not you'd be nervous is something I don't think anyone here can answer. |

Looks wise it's a great daily wearer. I am a big fan of the smurf as it looks like a normal sub with added colour and PCLs. So it flys under the radar in the sense people will not assume its gold. It all depends what you do day to day in terms of durability, obviously the gold is softer and more prone to dings which may cause issue if your hands on in your day to day activities. If your careful I think it would make a great daily wearer.

having been in the wrist game while..it took a while for me to figure out what I am comfortable with wearing day in and day out...
people wear $20K+ pieces all day long as dailies if it suits their style and lifestyle... if you plan on putting that much into a timepiece..I sure would wear it daily...

Im thinking about trading all my watches for a Plat DD40 or Daytona and wearing it everyday. No one will notice because its not like a gold watch but ill know what it is and i enjoy wearing PM watches as i get an energy from the metal (I feel).

Plenty here wear PM watches as daily wearers. Why not?
I would always suggest insuring it, this is a no brainer. |

You’re overthinking it. I wear mine daily and don’t really give it a second thought.
It’s insured, it’s et worn and enjoyed. Go for it!

There's no way I would pay that much money for something I'm not going to wear.

I don't think most people would notice it as a PM piece, but I wish they would brush the center links

I have been wearing my smurf daily for over 2 years, I love it - the first few days/weeks caused me concern, but I know I have insurance and most people think its fake since "Rolex Subs are black, not blue" so its usually really stealth. |

most wont. even a yellow gold piece isnt that flashy. many fashion watches are gold tone.

Not a smurf fan, but I wear a full gold sub all the time. No one really cares what you're wearing. Except nerds like us.

White gold is easier to scratch than stainless steel. So I don't recommend smurf for daily use... But if you don't care about it, go ahead

it all depends on how $25K means to you. To some people it is their whole world, to some it is a drop in the bucket.

Why would you spend $25k and not wear it?

If it becomes worn - does the service get the dings and scratches out ??

Hi
It's been only three months now that I'm on TRF and I've already read a few stories here of muggings for Rolexes and burglaries. When transporting things of value you always have to be aware of your surroundings and ready to protect your goods and self. The 116619LB is a mighty fine timepiece...needs insurance at least ;-) IMHO |

Don't worry, the 116619LB does not stand out and is very subdued. Most people will not have a clue of it being a solid gold watch. I love the warmer hue of the WG and the flat blue dial in sunlight.
Perfect watch for casual attire, see pics from Richris1, for a suit not so imho. But than I am from a generation who feels that you cannot wear a sports model under a suit. It will hold up over time better than any SS Sub with the ceramic sleeves in the bracelet. Lots of folks assume because it is gold that it scratches easily. There is no difference in scratches on my SS models compared to the WG of the 116619LB. Whatever scratches your WG will also scratch your SS. Perfect daily watch

I am personally way to rough to wear any watch with polished links as everyday. I wear a 16610 Sub Mariner to work. On my days off I wear my other watches. The Smurf and Platona are two of my favorites but I wouldn’t wear them at work.

Not sure about WA but down here in Boca I see them everywhere. People don't seem to have an issue or concern so I'd vote go for it. Wear it with pride and enjoy.
