I live in the EST zone, and thanks to my job that begins at four o'clock every morning, my body follows a schedule closer to the GMT zone. I looked all around for a dual zone watch and I saw none as beautiful as the white EXP II (especially with with 90s patina). Now, I work for a nonprofit and really shouldn't splurge on an expensive watch, but I think I inevitably took after my father, who's been a Rolex and Tudor collector for as long as I can remember. I really like the GMT Master, too, but ultimately the white dial and fixed bezel won me over. Here she is, fresh off some R&R, having received the complete overhaul plus a new bezel and crown from Rolex USA in NY. It gains about 3 seconds a day, looks brand new with a vintage face, and I cannot be happier. |

It might be a good idea to start up a new thread, introduce yourself and post some pics of your new white Exp-II. Hope you enjoy your stay here. Cheers - JJ

Excellent posts by all. I have been through both, what I would call the 2 major EXP II threads. The only questions I seem to have to help is what is the major difference with is the holes in the case for the bracelet. When did they stop having the holes, and why would someone like the holes or not when they were looking at an explorer?

SELs are the links between the lugs of the watch. Yes, Rolex have introduced SELs on all their sports models (except the no-date Sub) since 2002-2003.

There are several differences. The Exp 2 has the older style Oyster bracelet, which has hollow mid links. This makes it more prone to stretch over time. The clasp is the basic flip lock or whatever it is officially called. The Daytona and GMTIIc have the new style bracelet, with solid mid links. In addition, the clasp has been redesigned and is more substantial and much more attractive, IMHO. The GMTIIc and Daytona also have the comfort fit easy extension system or whatever it is officially called. It is a flip link that gives you a 1/2 link estension for those hot weather days when your wrist swells.
Another huge difference is the new style Oyster band allows you to have 4 links on the 6:00 side instead of the 5 on the older band. A huge advantage for those of us with smaller wrists!! With only 4 links on the 6:00 side you can achieve a perfect symmetry with both the clasp and watch head centered on your wrist. Word from my local AD is that all of the professional series will be redesigned to get these bracelets. This would be a huge upgrade for this watch. Huge! |

There are no 'forum ADs' as such, but if you contact members DAVIDSW (David) or bodybump (Oscar) I'm sure they will look after you. Cheers

I have a question... I am considering getting an Explorer II, one without lug holes. Someone earlier on in this thread mentioned it causing difficulty in changing the bands...
I am planning on taking off the oyster band, at least for the time being -- it won't be any issue to change the band to a Nato or a leather band as long as I have the correct tool, right? |

Mine is getting less and less wrist time, even considering selling it...
It's weird cause I used to be crazy about it. Will give it a couple of months and see how it goes. |

Not all of them do, the LEC started around 2003 if I remember correctly, yours is from around 2001 so I guess it won't have it.
