Advisable to have more close-up photos before pulling the trigger.

Decent price if the set comes with period correct Sub anchor and/or Sub plastic tag.

Nice watch. Is it wrong that I want to send it to RSC for a good polish?

Beauty - I would not have it polished, personally.

1680 Red Sub MK V fullset..about to pull trigger

Never polish, besides telling time, a vintage watch records the passing of it
Congratulations!

I like that, well put.
As for polish, I think you get the over-all consensus… and remember, RSC is NOT your friend.

That is a wonderful example. 16.5K USD for that watch with box and papers is a great price IMO.

As with any purchase, ensure you are dealing with a good seller.
You want to see the caseback, movement and serial references..

Based on the limited pictures, looks very nice!

But please do your complete due diligence...

Good luck!

When you buy one of these without the papers (this one has the papers, but just asking in general) how can you know that the red in the Submariner on the dial hasn't been retouched? I've heard of even reputable dealers passing on such watches.

Papers or not, dials can be refinished or doctored. There are specific styles to the word "Submariner" and how the red paint has been applied based on the MK number of the dial and the year of the watch.

Or ... if you're asking how does one know whether or not red paint has just been added to the word "Submariner" on the dial, the watch's serial number needs to fall within the range of red 1680s for it even to be considered a legit dial.
