Bought my first Rolex!

I finally jumped in and bought my first Rolex!

I've been enamored with the Yacht-Master 40mm blue and rhodium for a while. I have seen the blue in person at an AD, but never the rhodium. I watched tons of videos on youtube of both watches and viewed 100's of pictures on the internet. I decided that when I eventually came across a rhodium, I would make the purchase. It just looked slightly more elegant to me.

I swung by my local AD today (which never has anything intriguing) and there they were. A 40mm blue and a 37mm rhodium. My mind was set on the rhodium but when I saw the two side by side, the blue just sang to me. It really popped while the rhodium looked slightly bland. I think that the platinum bezel and the grey dial didn't give the piece enough contrast. Still stunning though!

The saleswoman told me she could source a 40mm Rhodium from another store and have it mailed to me. What can I say...the blue won me over!

Here are a few pics. I'm also glad that I waited a bit because this is the upgraded 3235 movement. It's nice to have the 70 hour power reserve.

She also threw in a Wolf automatic watch winder. Do any of you guys use this type of winder? It seems like there isn't much space between where the watch slides in and the inner wall. I'm slightly concerned about scuffing the watch putting it in and out.

I have that same winder. I don't use it though. If you rotate watches in and out, just wind it when you put it on. No sense in keeping gears moving if you don't wear it for a month or so.

Thanks everyone!

Out of curiousity….Is it customary for the AD to take pictures of the watch before they sell it?

The manager had to check my ID in the backroom behind closed doors to verify that it was real somehow. He came back to me and told me I passed the ID check. He also told me that I would be shocked by how many people give him fake ID's. Especially when trying to purchase a Rolex.

Then he mentioned that they were taking a bunch of pictures of the watch before the sale took place.

It all seemed like overkill to me.

Was this at Mayors or Watches of Swiss?

Thank guys!

I read a post somewhere the other day and someone called the Blue Yacht-Master "The Captain America". Is that an actual nickname for this watch? If not it suits it.

Congratulations on a stunning YM, especially with the new movement. That blue is striking.

Can honestly say this is the first time I have heard it called that.

All watches are made to tell time, few however, tells us so beautifully like this one does.

I don't use my winder, it's like leaving a car running when you're out of town for a week. Just adds unnecessary wear. Part of the fun is winding it up yourself later.

I would rather have a (small) discount than the watchwinder.

No way I would give my ID to take it into the back by the salesman.
