Exactly! Look at the color and font. How can anyone objectively say these are at the very best service replacements and at worse, not authentic at all? If these were Pepsi inserts everyone would be complaining about the vibrant color for the reported age and asking if they were red backs...right?!?

I’ve read all there is to read on this current discussion; here, VRF & Instagram.
What I understand is that at some point an old watchmaker uncovered a large unused cache of blue bezels. Did these ever appear on an original watch leaving the factory? No. Were they made under license? Possibly. Are they fake? Could be. Red GMT hand; definitely fake. Would I buy either? No!

1. Why did it take several weeks? So you flew in, went back and then flew in again?

2. They were not happy it was authentic? Why weren't they happy? If it's real why fit a new bezel?

Xeramic has just posted this over at VRF. A genuine insert starts off as silver and the color is applied, leaving the numerals as a negative.

So scratching off silver numerals is impossible if genuine...

This is a very interesting read. I’m blown away by the all knowledge here.

I guess threads like these are one of the reasons why the vintage world scares me off.

Much respect to all of the experts here. Differences of opinion to be sure but very interesting to a mere minion like me.

That's okay. There's always the BLNR if you want to get close without going vintage. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if Rolex made the BLNR because of the Blueberry hype. There's probably more of a vintage/modern tie here than Rolex wants to admit (in public anyway).

This is not an issue for the paint not to extend all the way to the end of the arm. I've seen it before.

Yes , exactly , I flew in , had a discussion with them where they said they’d like to examine it ... I left ... several weeks later they contacted me with their thoughts . Not what you’d expect if they never made any blue bezels ... that conversation would have taken 2 seconds .several weeks after that I flew in and collected it again ( and took in another watch )

2 ... think you are losing something in the English ... they decided after several weeks of examining it that it was not authentic and they decided a new Pepsi should be fitted instead .

The thing is Jed they know you very well and the rare pieces you have so were probably being prudent wanting to check thoroughly anyway - there's been a number of mistakes where they haven't at RSCs so Geneva seem to be very cautious these days.

Did you not ask them when you took the blue one in IF they ever made other blue ones, rather than presuming that's why they checked it? Is it possible to check with the same people now who confirmed it was fake if there are others that are not and when/where/how they were made? You have good connections to ask....

All I wanna say is that seeing a faded all blue insert means very little.
We all know that there are plenty of artificially fade bezel inserts......

my 2 cents
There is no proof that Rolex ever made these blue inserts. no paperwork, no old adverts, no catalogues, no known provenance/special orders for ME etc.
But where is demand and money to be made there'll always be people taking advantage.

I am a vintage guy but I tell you that I am very reluctant to purchase 4 digit GMT or a Sub these days.
It has become a minefield.
