Can a smoke-filled room damage a Submariner?
Thanks Rolex-ites.

I can assure you a smoke filled room will do a lot more harm to the people inhaling the smoke than any watch no matter the brand.

If its impervious to water at 300 metres below, don't think smoke can harm it a few meters above.

I can recall a conversation I had some years ago with an engineer from Rolex at Bexley that the greatest enemy of a Rolex watch is fine dust not water. The bases of this could be that water has surface tension which can restrict its flow.

Only if the wearer loses consciousness from smoke inhalation and smashes the watch against something hard in the fall.

As much as water can. So No.

However, unlike a Rolex, people being exposed to the 2nd hand smoke don't have the tightness of a Rolex. So if we need to say yes so you won't smoke / be around it - then YES!!!

Wonder what occurred to prompt the op? Where there's smoke there's fire....so it may damage the watch depending on how hot the flames get.

Yes it might sound funny but in the many many years around Rolex and on this forum,we moderators have seen most of the above topics as posts many many times over the years.I sometimes wonder why some buy a waterproof tough Rolex oyster S.steel watches, perhaps many today just to wear the brand.Because although Rolex watches are one of the toughest and most reliable brands on this planet. The way some Rolex watches are pampered today, well they might as well make them from glass, instead of one of the toughest materials today S.steel.

I wore my rolex in house fires all the time but it was under my turn out gear. I should have strapped on the out side to see if it could take the smoke but mostly the heat!

I would suggest the watch switch to nicotine patches instead.
