Icon11 Rolex Authentication in Atlanta

Hey TRF:

I am looking to purchase a 1995 Submariner and I need to get it authenticated here in the city however the few ADs I have called said they wont take the back off to view the actual movement? Any thoughts as to where else to go for a trustworthy authentication?? And is this normal?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum, yes the ADs that I have come across (not in Atlanta but generally) usually won't do authentication of watches especially removing the back etc.

You can use Yelp and search for rolex repair and see if you can find a reputable watch repair shop that has good reviews on Rolex. I just did a quick search on Yelp and it seems there is a store that repairs and sells used Rolexes as well (Atlanta Luxury Watches and jewelry) so may be give them a call? Authenticating a watch shouldn't be that hard for them especially if they are in business of repairing and selling used authentic watches.

Of course it's normal. AD's are sales outlets, they don't know anything about the inside of a Rolex, nor are they qualified or equipped to do so.

A watchmaker on staff, or an independent shop, may do this, but it would take time and require a pressure check afterwards to ensure it's still waterproof. Expect to pay their standard rates for this.

I suppose, but lately they (AD's) aren't sales outlets anymore either, but rather empty cabinet monitors.
