I would say no. Archie may play a character, but he still understands the quality of certain watches.

My first professional was a 5513 in 1989. Loved it from the moment I saw it in a magazine, loved it even more when it was finally on my wrist. To this day, the classic black submariner is with the classic Sea-Dweller, my favorite watch.

I have never been disappointed or underwhelmed by any of my Rolex purchases. They've always looked great and all have been ruggedly built accurate timekeepers. I've owned Breitlings, Zeniths, Omegas, and others, but they're gone now.

It's weird being the same age as old people.

I know what you mean, when I first received my own grail watch, the 116500LN Panda, I was borderline freaking out because it seemed so much less substantial than my black dialed 116503 TT at almost twice the price. At the price point of a PM Daytona it seemed to be a case of over-hype that I fell into. But after 3 months I absolutely love it and have grown to appreciate the stainless tool watch look. The 116503 was more elegant, but the 116500LN with that amazing white dial is so clean and pure that it took me a while to really appreciate it. It took a full 3 months to actually fall hard for it. Now I can't imagine my (horological) life without it. I think the simple, clean, classic look of your 116610LN may be a similar experience to mine.

Felt that way with both black subs I bought new.
Never felt that way about my BLRO, still overwhelmed months later with this one.

However, a well worn daily Submariner becomes part of you and you'll grow very fond of it.
