Go for it, looks like you will be stepping up a level, remaining stealth with a better fitting watch and taking advantage of the market. Just make sure you drive as hard a bargain as you can. Reason being that plenty people will buy the Daytona or batman but not so many have the wherewithal for the WG sub so you are doing him a favour, not the other way round. Beautiful watch btw. :)

I do take that point as a good one, though arguably the 116520 was even shinier. Nevertheless I wouldn’t say the Daytona has transitioned to a dress watch yet in the way a Cartier Santos or a JLC Reverso have. With everything going on on that dial and bezel, it’s just not sufficiently elegant for that. So it sits somewhere in between, and in doing so, has become quite a smart casual office attire clichee. Personally, I would not push it and prefer a more refined look for anything more formal. As for the other side of things, you’ll still see so many of these on the race track that I’d say it’s shiny nature hasn’t hurt it’s appeal in sporty situations one bit.

Make sure you see it in person and try it on.
Then the experience becomes real.

I passed on this piece at my AD. It is heavy, sits nice on the wrist, the blue is very nice but it looked a bit too ordinary with that black dial.

Why don't you ask for it at an AD? They are not that difficult to get.

You are very welcome, I collect a Rolesor Black Sub tomorrow from my AD so may be exuberantly biased at this time. :)

I sold two to get my gold sub. I still had a SS remaining so it was a no brainer for me. Seems you are in the same situation. If the economics are fair go for it!

Well not the black ceramic Daytona at least.

If you bought that retail, you must have a pretty good relationship with your AD - if he found out you sold it would he offer you any more hot pieces in the future?

Also, getting the chance to replace the black Daytona at retail if you regretted selling it later would be near on impossible I’d imagine.

Tough decision tbf

I completely agree and I would not do this

Agree with the above ⬆️⬆️
It’s very personal and…do what makes you happy… is the ultimate answer. I’d personally approach it as ….
I’d want the pm sub for sure (out of your choices), but keep a SS sub as well for everyday wearability/abuse, and I’d want to keep the “land, air, sea,” collection personally.
For me, I’d trade the two subs if two HAD to go. I’d still be left with two SS pieces. If I were making this choice, I’d keep the SS black bezel sub , trade the LV along with cash.

Your numbers are off, and remember one thing: Most guys cannot get the WG Sub from an AD at retail, which is closer to $43K with tax. And black Daytonas are not $38K on the secondary market. There are some listed in the low $30Ks right now on this forum.

Keep in mind that with this deal you'd getting a great return on the SS Daytona, which retails for about $13K with tax. You'd be cashing in the market-value difference to get a beautiful full white gold Submariner, which common sense says will most likely never drop below retail price on the secondary market, not in the Rolex frenzy nowadays.

This is just not the case. When you see and feel the two watches side-by-side they are very, very different, especially in weight and luster. Sure, across the room somone might not notice a big difference on your wrist except for that flash of blue. But the 126619LB is really a watch for the owner, not to show off, and that's part of what makes it so special.

I've considered similar trades from my collection for the 126619LB...absolutely love the watch.

BUT, in all reality, the "batman" looks super similar to the new white gold sub. That's what has held me back so far.

I have the new WG Sub. It's beautiful. I'd try to keep the Daytona if possible and use your Subs and GMT to move up to the WG Sub. Once you get the WG Sub, I suspect your other Subs will not see much wrist time. Good luck.

What would trading the two do to your relationship with the AD?

Nothing really. I don’t deal with that ad anymore as I’ve moved. And they were quite a long time ago, I’m not a flipper. Just fancy a change quite a lot! I’m really happy with all my watches but can’t afford to just add that sub without losing something

This is my thought process. Also, I know this sounds really bad but if I see someone with a Rolex it’s almost always a Batman or a Daytona, maybe they are clones who knows, I’ve never seen a blue sub on someone’s wrist, not even a clone, something about that really appeals

If I was purely office based then that would be the sensible move.

Should I sell two watches to buy a 126619LB ?

The LB is a piece that will make you lose money - good example is Smurf. Unless you don’t care at all.

So my recommendation is No.
Keep to what you are having. Things are popular for a reason

I’m going to go with no (and I’m not even a fan of Daytonas). I don’t see the point in precious metal subs. Goes against what they were meant to be and I consider gold an inferior material over stainless steel in a watch. But at least it’s not yellow gold…
