Great thread and love the comparison photos, huge thanks for posting and congrats to someone in your family, once you guys finish fighting for it, lols. Make it fair, get the watch and everyone lubed up in grease, throw it the center of the room and who ever grabs it first wins.

For me this goes to prove I prefer the 39mm more. Guess it's a wrist size size thing, anyone that has a Panerai wearing wrist size like me will prefer the bigger size, but in particular I find the 36 dial to be too compressed while I like how the 39 looks more normal to my eyes plus I'm a sucker for matte dials. Such a shame Rolex watch prices are set by sharks and investors, no way I'd pay $11-12k for a base model Rolex, the value proposition is not there at all.

If I had to guess...

1. Received underwhelming Father’s Day card from son and reassessed his plans.

2. Read some of the other “36mm insecurity” threads and suddenly questioned own masculinity.

3. Realized that it would be years before he passed this watch on to his son, but the window to practically double his money on it was quite finite, ergo sell now and either buy matching OPs for both of them, or wait, rebuy, then send his son off to college with an Explorer and $5,000 in beer money.

I just saw that he listed it for sale! I guess the novelty of the 36mm wore off pretty quickly.

Just saw that the 124270 is now for sale at almost double msrp. The flippers allure won out in the end.

Laughed so hard.

The gloss black dial on the new one is just sooo good.

The posting says “never worn or sized.”

Everything on the internet is fake.

Nearly all the flippers and secondary dealers claim this. In this case, we actually have photographic evidence the watch was worn. Dignity and pride of Rolex ownership has been replaced with shame and greed.

To be fair, the “wearing” we saw was more akin to taking an outfit home, trying it on for a few people, then deciding to return. No alterations, no wearing out, still “new” as most would define it.

I agree it's still "new", but his listing specifically says "never worn or sized" and we can see a picture with it on his son's wrist.

Sure, but doesn’t sound like it was sized, and I seem to recall those photos being from the showroom, where back in the day, we’d expect most watches to have been “tried on” by someone (yet still sold as “unworn”).

It might not have been sized, we'll never know, but having a picture posted with it on his son's wrist can at least call into question the use of the term "unworn". It's not a deal breaker on the watch by any stretch, but it also doesn't feel like the most straight-forward listing.

Whether a salesman could say in good faith that it was never worn (outside the store) or sized is kinda beside the bigger point. I have no idea if it was worn in the wild or not, but I wouldn’t take the seller’s word for it. The whole narrative seems to be a ruse.

The OP is dated May 29th (bought it “yesterday”) but the pictures in the add show a warranty card dated two months prior, March 27th.

That would have to be a mistake... Since the watch wasn't even released until April.

Either dealer wrote the wrong date, or perhaps he inadvertently grabbed the warranty card from a different one of his watches for the photo op?

Wow, I don't even know where to begin on this one....As a guy who's been on here over 7 years, bought and sold a bunch of watches and made some great friends, I was a bit shocked to see a fair bit of negativity.

I bought the watch on 5-27-21 for my son. The watch has never been worn or sized. I don't consider, trying a watch on and snapping a picture as a used watch. It appears as though they wrote the date on the warranty card as 3-27 instead of 5-27. Honest mistake. My sales receipt says 5-27 and my original post was the next day (5-28). For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure nobody had the new Explorer on 3-27.

Additionally, a second AD called and said they got the Explorer in if I wanted it. So I bought it and put it up for sale to make a few bucks. I'm not the first guy to ever do that.
