My First Rolex (Pics)
My wife and I turned 40 in the middle of COVID which put a damper on the vacation we had planned. Instead of travel, we decided to purchase watches to celebrate. I've been into watches for as long as I can remember and have some decent timepieces, but this is my first Rolex. I went for the stainless steel DJ 41 on a jubilee bracelet with the white gold fluted bezel and blue stick dial. My wife went for the two tone DJ 36 with the silver dial and pave diamond 6/9....it was a tough choice for her since she liked the olive dial as well but thought the silver would be more versatile. I on the other hand knew what I wanted pretty much immediately. I love the way the fluted bezel reflects light and how the blue dial can go from bright blue to almost black depending on the light. Definitely hooked!!

I love the blue dial on the steel Datejust. Have you seen the blue on the 2021 steel 36 Datejust? They do two a bright blue and a bright Blue fluted motif the Lazer etched fluted motif is stunning. I love the dial colours on the 2021 DateJust and the Oyster perpetual dials.
I've just purchased a DJ 36 two tone rose gold with a sunburst grey which appears black, chocolate brown or grey depending on the light and viewing angle. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=819719 I would love a blue dial Datejust and if one fell into my lap I'd pull the trigger immediately, but they have a premium of about 3k GBP on the grey market. It's OK to own two DateJusts I guess but I don't think a steel DJ is a 9K watch. There are much better watches out there to chuck 9k at. |

I actually bought this watch in early 2021 before the 2021 dials came out. Pretty sure it was just before every Rolex AD stopped having anything in stock. I have only seen pictures of the blue fluted dial (never seen one in person). They are cool looking but I think I still would’ve gone for the one I bought. Congrats on the DJ 36. I love that dial color. I think it would be totally fine to own a second DJ if you could find one at a reasonable price. The bezel/bracelet combo you have is about as sporty as a DJ gets and you could easily add a jubilee bracelet with fluted bezel to your collection and have two watches that look totally different. |

You can't make a wrong choice with modern datejusts they're such a beautiful and versatile watch. And having your wife wearing a two Tone DD that's just so f**king hot. I hope you both get many years of enjoyment from those timepieces. |

Blue dial looks amazing how does your wife like hers. My wife wants a Wimbledon dial date just. I told her good luck at finding one for an AD. Congrats!!!

I still haven't seen that blue jubilee dial in person. Something like that would be hard for me to pull the trigger on without seeing it. Plus, as this is my first Rolex, I wanted something a little more classic. |

Ironically, the Wimbledon was available as an option for me to purchase instead of the blue dial. I know it's probably the more collectible of the two, but my heart was set on the blue. |

Fantastic watches and great purchase! My wife just bought me blue dial Datejust, and they just cannot be beat. I love that your wife went slightly larger with hers than the 28mm.

Big fan of the blue face watches - have done the same myself with many (non-Rolex) units in the past.

That datejust looks cool! Is the jubilee bracelet more comfortable than oyster?

I’ve always been curious as to why people like jubilee more than oyster if someone could answer this that would be helpful.
