Not at all my kind of watch, but that doesn't matter for 2 reasons.

Firstly, I couldn't come close to affording it.

Secondly, it transcends the normal watch criteria and in my mind is actually a work of art.
And a quite stunning one at that. Something to be viewed and admired rather than worn.

I’d be interested to know what kind of AD gets pieces like this. Do they make pitches to Rolex USA based on potential customers, or does RUSA just send them to the “major” ADs (e.g., Rolex Boutique Fifth Ave NYC, Rolex Boutique Rodeo Drive LA, etc.) and let the AD decide whom to allocate to?

I’m not entirely sure how it all works but only the ADs in Rolex’s good graces get off-catalog models from what I’ve heard

Can you explain the process of the acquisition? Did your SA or AD need to apply to Rolex on your behalf to allocate the reference to you? Or was it up for grabs already at your AD?

I expressed my interest in the OF version earlier this year but sadly was told that got discontinued. My AD asked me to come in and had this surprise for me, and the rest is history

so true, another AD I stopped by at today thought it was fake or non-factory at first because she has never seen it in the catalog
