Looks like Rege-Jean Page is the clear favourite now, he has the timing right coming off Bridgerton, a couple of years ago James Norton was fav after McMafia, and before that Tom Hiddleston after the Night Manager but before Taylor Swift, looks like Page's timing is right.

Why? Why can’t it just be a different franchise instead of mutilating this one like so many others have been? I’ve yet to see a remake of Thelma and Louise with Tom and Larry.

Or the Roadrunner and Wile E Coyote.

I agree with RyanJ that spycraft is not an exclusively male field, but I'm with you because I think 007 is more action hero than spy. The Daniel Craig films were filled with hand-to-hand combat and feats of strength/stamina. If 007 is meant to have navy seal / SAS type skills, then Idris Elba or Henry Golding make some logical sense even if they don't look like prior Bonds. I think a woman makes more sense in a story that's actually about spycraft.

Jason Stathom???? LMAO!!!
He’s too short, bald and I can’t stand his dry voice.
He better stick to his ridiculous action movies.

While that is true, a female spy using her feminine wiles and more, would be a key asset for a female spy, but in light of MeToo etc this is an avenue they just cannot pursue, which would make the whole thing seem very artificial, given how sexualised Bond's character has been for decades. It would be better just to have a separate franchise built around a new post 2020 female spy.

The thing is though, James Bond 007 is not really a spy. He's more a government agent used to root out and kill people.

Conventional spies I don't think ever really mixed it up with anyone, they were people in the shadows who collected information and passed it on. And women were probably in a lot of ways better at that because for one they had a special kind of access and possibly were least suspected of spying and could move around more freely. They were probably good at coercing people into working for them as well.

As good spy is someone who blends in and nobody takes notice of.

I bow to your greater knowledge of International Espionage.

But, given that all these female operatives existed, there must surely be enough genuine material for an author to create a suitable 'lady spy'.
"The name's Mata,....Mata Hari". Cue the music.

Easier though, I suppose to just usurp the work of Mr Fleming and Messrs Broccoli et al.......much easier.

In the US, we had..... Ames, Aldrich Ames 000.

And Hollywood already did Mata Hari in 1931 and 1985.

But I'm quite sure the producers of Bond aren't going to waste a billion dollar franchise by going too far off the reservation and make 007 a woman. Too much at stake to do that.

Like you say, if they want a woman secret agent, make their own new version. Or expand Atomic Blonde. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2406566/ The fight scenes were incredible.

Just watched Crooked House. Max Irons seems like he could pull off the role. Hell his dad could play the villain.

Thanks. I went over the cliff a bit on that one.

Salt and Red Sparrow got alot of negativity, but AB was received well and a sequel is being made so this might be happening.

Atomic Blonde was intense, gritty, and very physical. So much hand to hand and less dependence on tools or gadgets. I loved the scene towards the end when she went into that room with her handler and then proceeded to just wipe the floor with everyone in there. Such a great movie and Charlize Theron, being 6' and a former ballet dancer, really has a commanding and physical presence. I look forward to a sequel.

The staircase scene was great. And rather realistic. She got her ass kicked but dealt with the problem.

Purely from looks, size, and believability. He was decent in the The Marine for that type of role though. It would be fitting for someone that doesn't know who he is to say you can't see me, while being a believable badA.
