Rolex imperfections

Just noticed this on my yachtmaster 2. Not a huge deal but still kinda frustrating after spending $18k on a watch! Going to keep enjoying it and when it’s time for service in 10 years, if I still remember, I’ll have it fixed lol

I hate imperfections. That’s a warranty claim if you purchased new. If not, I would take to an AD to see what happened.

Did you notice it before looking at it through a loupe or magnification? Has anyone else noticed it and commented on it? If not, and if it doesn't affect the accuracy of the watch, try to forget about it until you need to have the watch serviced.

Several videos on the net of PP / AP etc with paint imperfections too. Quality control is only as good as the quality control person at that particular moment.

I received a loupe with a watch purchase and it proceeded to ruin my life. So i packed it away. Literally every single one of my watches have an imperfection. Omega, Rolex, Nomos and Grand Seiko. I've simply stopped looking. Now if I got a Patek i'm not sure how forgiving i'd be but at this tier i've learnt to let it go as it was driving me crazy.

If you wait until you have it serviced in 10 years, it would be out of warranty and on your dime.

If you are unhappy, I would do it sooner than later.
Looks like you have a double whammy there. Missing paint on the side, and lume outside the lines.

Have agree another case when loupes and high magnification can and will be a Rolex owners worst enemy. And will add Rolex dont make the hands for any of there watches,a firm called Aiguilles makes all the watch hands for all models.Plus mainsprings they are made by Schwab-Feller AG, all movement bearing and cap jewels, watch crystals, spring-bars out sourced.

Go to another brands. Rolex never can produce perfect watches. Or no brands can do it. Haha

Looks normal to me, if Patek, Lange, AP etc don’t/can’t finish the edges of hands, why would Rolex. It’s a good picture though, what magnification are you using?

If you have to use a loupe to see it, it is not an imperfection.

Actually noticed sitting at Lowe’s waiting with just my eyes. No loupe. The pic was taken on my iPhone 8 after noticing the imperfections.

Looks like many painted hands on many Rolexes, my Explorer II was like that as well on all of its hands (black, orange). That’s just the tolerance they build these things to.

How is it that folks will get worked up over these things, but will then happily drive a Tesla?

So how come you didn't spot it when you first bought it at the AD?

Would you enjoy the watch more knowing a robot painted that and it was perfect? I prefer that someone hand painted it and I can enjoy how unique it is…

It would be easier to fake if it was uniformly painted.

I think those hands are painted by machine, and QC'd by humans. The Milgauss orange hand used to get featured a lot here with a similar issue.

My own standards with Rolex and any watch for that matter is, when I get a new watch I inspect the watch thoroughly under a macro lens. I want to know everything about the watch like doing a skin cancer checkup. Yes I will find maybe some dust or something on the dial under the macro lens but that’s fine and doesn’t bother me at all. Sometimes you’re even pleasantly surprised how good it is. I draw the line at looking at a watch in sunlight wearing reader glasses. If I can’t see anything with reader glasses with my eyes then the watch is absolutely perfection and pass is my own personal quality control.

if one looks close enough at anything (or anyone) there will be imperfections. That’s the existential reality of life if we pay 100 or 1,000,000 for a watch. We are all better off if we consider if the aspects that are worthy outweigh the imperfections.

Return it to your AD and have them closely inspect everything, then have them ship it to an RSC for a free fix. This is shoddy workmanship that should never have passed the factory QC check...if there was one.

Rolex imperfections

Having a look at the macro videos on Hafiz

https://youtube.com/c/HafizJMehmood

Small scratches, dust and minor cosmetic marks that are evident to macro (but not necessarily naked eye at arms length) are not unusual.

If it bothers you, could consider taking it back to RSC under warranty…

But if it’s not visible at arms length, just like a VS2 diamond… enjoy it for what it is. I’ll admit I didn’t even bother looking for imperfections on any of the Rolex timepieces I bought.

Agreed Brian

How that hand got past a QC check is beyond me.

If Casio can paint and lume G Shock hands correctly, Rolex has zero excuse for that double fail

Rolex imperfections

It’s shoddy. Should have been caught during assembly or QC. Not hard to paint a hand. If it bugs you, and it’s under warranty, it’s within your right to get it remedied. That said, I’d weigh the risks of getting it fixed when there is no other need to have it opened up. You may get a new hand, but could end up with a dust fleck or some other minor thing.

To me it’s too much. This is not a small hal deal but a big pointer and the defect is also carried on to one of the top side of the triangle. No need for a loop to see it I guess.
