Platinum Daytona with or without diamonds

Normally I’m not a diamond person but what do folks think. Yes or no to the diamond dial?

Leave the diamonds IMO. As a rule I can't stand diamonds on men's watches. Less is more.

Hard call as they both look great. If I were in this market, I’d go diamonds as I also like the subdials here.

Interesting how so many will say “I hate diamonds on a mans watch.” But if given a chance to buy 5711 baguette or rbow, they would take it in a heartbeat. A true watch enthusiasts respects all watches. So anyone who gives you crap for diamonds on a watch is just not an enthusiast and i wouldn’t put much credence on their opinion.

Personal preference of course but although admittedly not my most worn, for me you have to go all the way on this one - plus you get more of that beautiful colour blue :)

I’m not usually a big fan of diamonds on gents watches but when my trusted dealer offered me a 116506 the diamond dial was all he had.5 years on I’m so happy I went for the diamond dial.A word of advice-the pictures do not do the dial justice-you must see it ‘in the flesh’.

Absolutely diamond baguette dial for me. Really elevate the watch to a new level, and I have never been into diamond dial on a sport Rolex before.

For the platona…..baguettes for sure…..hence the 30-40k premium on the resale market

It really is one of the best watches rolex makes where the diamonds just work, they blend in and look fab.

Go all the way with baguette hour markers, it's gorgeous.

Baguettes - I think they must make these dials in lower numbers, so you take a scarce item and make it more so. I had the standard one in 2019 and got the baguette this month from my AD

So not overly liking diamonds means someone's not a genuine watch enthusiast? Yeah, OK then.

It's no different to preferring an Oyster bracelet over a Jubilee, or vice versa. It's just a preference.

One thing to not like them but another thing to say flat out you can’t stand them. Opinions are like arses. Everyone has one and unless you know the recipient wants to see it, best to just sit on on or else risk looking classless.

The OP asked for opinions.

Not like them / can't stand them - where's the difference?

Obviously you're entitled to your opinion (as indeed am I) but to infer that someone who happens to not like diamonds on watches can't be a true watch enthusiast is absurd.

Knowing when and when not, then how much or how little, to contribute is a lost skill.

Tons of watches out there and lots of people out there who don’t like Rolex. When someone tells me “I love watches but I can’t stand Rolex” I just discredit their position in the discussion. And when someone weighs in on a diamonds or not on a 80k watch with “I can’t stand diamonds,” I tend to think the same.

Someone earlier today asked about a YG or RG daytona with diamonds on OF. He has an impressive collection and is a seasoned collector. The number of times of people comment so matter-of-factly on how diamonds don’t belong on mens watches this subject is bizarre.

Hey if you get a call for a RBOW at retail, please let me know since you will be passing on it despite the rest of the crowd paying 5x for it :)

All I can say is that I personally have yet to see any watch with diamonds on it that I'd wear myself... and that's after 30 or so years of being into watches. It doesn’t mean I think they all look terrible, it just means it’s not my thing. Much like snakeskin shoes or double-breasted suits - some people like them, but I don’t.

What I will say though is it's not all about the resale/investment value to some of us, so personally I would turn down a RBOW at retail. (And of course if I somehow didn't turn it down, it wouldn't be because I suddenly liked it - it would be purely to sell it on). I turned down a BLRO at RRP because I decided it wasn't for me, even though I could've sold it for twice retail. Why? Because I only buy what I personally like, and diamonds on watches are simply not my thing.

Anyway, it's been a good conversation - have a great rest of your day.

At this level of watch, I would go all out with diamonds on that color dial.

Use to diamonds, and I’m not a diamond guy at all. A few of the day dates are approved too with the bling (hour markers)

The diamonds are subtle and fit nicely with the dial. I'd say yes.

-Personal preference of course
-I agree with a statement above…baguette dial must be seen in person, it’s outstanding!
-the diamond markers aren’t that noticeable unless looking close
-the baguette dial gives a bit more blue dial to look at, and makes the watch a bit more dressy IMO
-the regular dial has the contrasting sub dials, which I personally love…gives it more of a casual/sporty feel

-no wrong answer here, just personal taste, style, etc…
