Newbie here - happy with wait time
Hello all,
I haven't worn a watch for 10 years+ but decided back in June/July this year I really wanted to start a collection and it's always been on my bucket list to buy a Rolex as I remember my late father talking about them when I was a kid and I have of course seen the brand across the years and had my eye on a Sub or Explorer. I did some research and came across the high demand and a friend advised me to build some history with the AD. As it happened I liked the Tudor watches from the AD and decided to try for those, but even they were "in high demand". I tried a number of different ADs and was knocked back repeatedly. I considered the grey market but didn't feel right paying that much over the odds. In July I walked into an AD here and told her I wanted to start a collection and she went out the back and brought out the Black Bay Bronze, which I bought there and then. A month later I went back for the Black Bay Heritage. In September I was offered the Pelagos and was told I could buy the Black Bay Ceramic and then the Sub no date but it would be a 6 month wait or I could get the Deepsea Sea-Dweller (Black dial) in a months time without having to get the Ceramic. Fast forward to Sunday and I picked up my DSSD. Of course the dealer has played a blinder here and has sold me more watches than just 1 Rolex but I am very happy with the Bronze, Heritage and Pelagos. The DSSD is next level though. Absolutely delighted. I figured I could start trading the Tudors if I got bored of them but I definitely need some non-dive watches next :-) |

Wanted a Sub but Ended up with 3 Tudors and a DSSD.
Not a great deal to me. Anyway if you are happy and you like your watches… enjoy! that’s what is important. |

welcome and glad it's working out for you.
personally, i would have just paid the grey markup for the watch i really wanted back in july and skipped the three tudors (not a tudor fan). but that's me, and if you're happy with your collection and your strategy, then i'm happy for you. enjoy! |

When you decide to build a collection of watches, it's not always possible to start with the most desirable piece right off the bat, and besides, what one considers most desirable usually changes as the collection grows.
If you made the decision to start a nice collection of Tudors, before acquiring the more desirable DSSD, then it was a smart move to go with an AD and stick with that AD, as long as you were satisfied with the service. It seems that many newcomers think that it's smart to just buy a bunch of watches and jewelry they have no interest in just so that can, maybe, buy the Rolex they really want. That's not smart.

Which Pelagos did you get? Its a horribly underated watch and one of my favorites. The DSSD and Pelagos have similair missions though, it's too bad you couldn't have picked up a BBGMT to have a little more variety instead of the heritage or even the Pelagos.
Congrats on owning the crown so early into the hobby. I've been waiting much longer, but have gravitaed towards Omega and GS whilst I wait. |

Congratulations on the Tudors and DSSD. Yes, the next one should be something other than a diver. Maybe a Datejust
