Changing Day & Date wheel/disc for better legibility?
Over the years have any members considered or changed their Day/Date wheels/disc.
So they can read the information more easily? I have a beautiful Day Date (18038 from 1984) on a genuine Rolex strap and 18ct pin buckle. The dial is champagne- sunburst and the day/date wheel matches that. I am now of an age were reading them can be difficult without wearing glasses, or focusing on them. I am thinking of replacing with black writing on a white background discs. I would appreciate your thoughts. I have found a watchmaker who can access Rolex genuine parts, as an authorised repairer. So I wouldn't have to undergo Rolex stipulation of a full service, change of dial and hands with the cost being £1,400

Go for it. The discs on an 18038 are finicky to get lined up properly and will tend to rub if not installed correctly, so hopefully your watchmaker is well versed in the older Day/Dates.
Hang onto the original discs just in case you ever sell the watch.

Go for it.
I changed the date wheel in my Yacht-Master 16622 from the standard black numerals to a red numeral date wheel sourced from a Turn-O-Graph, because it matched the red lettering on the "Yacht-Master and the red seconds hand. Do what you like :-) |

There have been cases where a Day disc was changed from one language to another, or a Date disc for color choice.
I would suggest keeping the original one if you do a swap (presuming the one in the watch is original). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thank you for your advise.
The company who will undertake the work are accredited Rolex watch repairers. So hopefully they will aligned the discs correctly ![]() And the plus, is that they will return the old discs on completion of the work. Something which Rolex don't tend to do. ![]()

After a few days away.
Back where it belongs. Very good service. And unlike RSC I get to keep the replacement parts. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There are 5 different shades of color for the 5 digit day dates for the day and date wheels. I agree the dark champagne color is hard to read.
