Anyone struggling between Patek and Rolex?
I’ve never owned a Patek.
I tried some models earlier, but this was the first one that truly did something to me: Stunning&interesting watch—not ”the hottest Patek to have”, but I love it. Also the history behind this Patek is not as deep as many other models... Also tried this one: White gold Daytona. No explanations needed. Thinking Patek feels like I am cheating Rolex.... Anyone else having this kind of strange struggle? What is the horological truth to you if thinking these two watches? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That Patek does nothing to me, if it was a Nautilus then its a different story.
I would grab that Daytona in a instant, it’s the most versatile Daytona out there and it’s also the ‘hottest’. |

its a great Patek, one of my favorites. The WG daytona, i like but not my favorite daytona
The Patek is a unique one for Patek, i like it because it's weird. Love the left side pushers in particular. A daytona is a daytona. Very nice but everyone has seen one

Watches and cars and so many other things are more about service than anything else. And Patek after-sales service could not be any worse. RSC, as far as I am concerned and based in a hefty experience, is excellent. Been there, done that.

Agreed. This is where I put practicality into a very non-practical subject of luxury watches. I’ve heard the same horror stories of Patek owners not seeing their watches for 6 months. Nah. I’ll take Rolex service. |

It’s not only a six months wait -usually it is much more than that. The main issue is the outright poor work they do. To get PP to adjust a watch to keep proper time is nearly impossible. Over polishing a new case to the point of making the stamps on the back of the lugs disappear becomes a nightmare when they don’t accept responsibility for the damage. On and on, a nightmare.

not really. I didn't set my 5164 for nearly a year. it ran the entire time. it was within like 30 seconds.
My 5524 was back from warranty work within a month. It was my fault, i dropped it and the pusher jammed. They fixed it anyway. I didn't tell them how it happened and they didn't ask. They had to open up the case and get into the movement though. My 5164 remains my most accurate watch i own. Not the Rolexes and the 324 movement is the workhorse in most of the watches people around here are going to have. On thing about Patek is they will restore and service anyones 100 year old watch. That takes ages obviously. Rolex won't touch your vintage watch and for sure won't keep it original. They have some obscure restoration department in geneva you can apply to get serviced, but who knows if its something a regular person can even get approved for. So if you have any aspirations of an heirloom watch and choose Rolex, better get use to third party services. The brand that made it no longer cares.

This kind of stories I’ve read too many... seems that PP is a brand that one can’t trust. With the price that high one should have a feeling that you are about to get the watch for life (or for next generation as PP promotes..) with no worries... Rolex is something you can trust. Starting to feel that Patek is not for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks for sharing your experience! Just heard that Patek-watches have only two years warranty which is strange when comparing to Rolex or Omega—even though in different categories... never experienced Patek, but true: RSC=Superb! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I rather like that PP.
They are nice in general but I've never been torn with the PP vs Rolex. They're totally different to compare with the exception of some Cellini models. The sports models of each are also too different. PP vs AP vs VC - yes. Absolutely. Those 3 are the grailers of Swiss watches. Now throw in some of the German brands like GO and Seiko's GS, then there's a debate on calibre fit finish and dials. FWIW, H Moser and ALSons and even JLC have always been on my lust list but not my marriage list. Watches preferences are an enigma. |

I’ve seen the white gold version and found it surprisingly appealing. Probably the only Patek that interests me. I’d never compare Rolex to Patek, but in this case I’d go for the Patek. It really depends on what else you have in the safe.

5524g is a very polarizing Patek. When it first came out people thought the pictures were fake because it looked so different than a traditional Patek. I do quite like it though. But the purists don't and it's pricing has suffered as a result. You can find them used in the 30s. They also do a 5524r which is seen as more traditional looking. The 5524g is going to feel quite dainty compared to a WG Daytona. PP could have done a better job with the strap and clasp IMO.

I'm struggling how to figure out how to afford one...haha, jk.
...other than that, I'd go Patek if you already have Rolex in your collection. |

Nope, just buy both brands!
That particular Patek is a bit of an oddball but you can get them at a good price generally. Good luck getting any Naut or Aqua at retail. |

Yes! I am going back and forth right now about a DD40 and a 5170P. Not similar at all but cannot add both right now.
In your case I would go 5524 preowned. Crazy good deals right now.
