Rolex Stolen from wrist in Barcelona

Walking home in a crowded area on the way back to the W hotel, I had a 116518 stolen off my wrist. I was with my girlfriend. Guy came up behind me as we we stopped at a crosswalk and grabbed my wrist. I had time to punch him, though he didn’t let go of my wrist and when he did he had the watch. I chased him and another guy on foot for three or four blocks and lost them. Champagne dial, black sub dials. Serial #P8637889 unusually small oysterflex band size E and E-0.

Very sorry to hear that, at least you're safe, hope you have an insurance for that watch.

This is one reason that I have never wanted to wear a luxury watch on the trip.

Yeah we were fine, she started chasing after me chasing them and when I heard her that’s really when I stopped. It all happened so quickly, the second guy didn’t do anything. He just stood there then ran.

Its why I do not wear or take expensive stuff to strange places. It's not a big deal until it happens to one of us. Then it is. Glad you are both okay.

I’m sorry OP.

I’m also angry. Some POS can’t work, and earn. Street justice would be the ultimate reward.

I wasn’t quite sure what reference this was until I read “subdials”. Glad to hear you at least got a crack on him, I would also fight for mine. People aren’t replaceable but some watches are also not replaceable and worth the scrap.

I wore my Rolex in Barcelona last year and was very aware of my surroundings, I noticed people looking - and I made sure they knew I saw them. As boxer of 15 years though it doesn’t bother me and I’ll continue to wear my nice watches whenever I travel as long as it isn’t an overly dangerous area like South America.

Most important thing is that you are ok!

Live in bcn currently and don’t wear my Rolex unless I can cover it up In full. Has unfortunately come to that stage :-/

Unfortunately rudimentary self defense training seems to be a good idea these days. I just came back from traveling in Europe and a few times reached out with my arms at full length to establish some social distancing between myself and people who seemed to be getting too close while boarding trains etc. very sorry OP…

That's ballsy. Hopefully you are alright. I was just there two weeks ago sporting a VC Overseas, AP ROO 43 and a Panerai Luminor with luckily no issues whatsoever.

And some people on the forums still laugh whenever tourists ask whether X city in Europe is safe to wear Rolexes.

Folks, better to wear a beater when you travel in Europe, especially Spain.

Sorry for your loss and super that you and GF are okay. In Barcelona it is indeed smarter wearing a (cheap) beater. On the other hand I had never issues wearing Rolex in for example Alicante, Murcia or Cartagena. I spotted also a lot of Rolex.

Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately Barcelona has a poor reputation when it comes to this sort of thing. The local laws don’t provide much punishment so there’s little disincentive to the criminals.
