Datejust 41 sudden feels big...lol

Before I got my DD40, I was in love with my DJ41. I thought it was the perfect size (at least on my wrist) and appeared proportionally perfect to my eyes.

Fast forward to now having my DD40 fitting the exact way I want it, I wear it much more now and when i put on the DJ41, it sudden feels a little chunky...

Weird...

I wouldn’t have guessed it.

What makes it feel larger than before?

Here’s my two cents: It’s big for the average wrist. I personally think DJ, like a Cartier tank, looks best tapered into a more refined piece. The 40 has a slightly tapered case compared to the 41 and the Datejust II .

I agree. The DJ41 would be much better off at the size of the DD40.

There is too big of a size difference between the DJ41 and DJ36.

I think the DJ41 is too big for my 6.5 wrist.

I would have preferred if they had an in between size. Perhaps a DJ39? BTW I know the DJ41 can be measured as a 39.Xmm.

I guess it's a matter of perspective because my DJ41 is the smallest, lightest, and thinnest watch I have. FWIW, I do have 7.5" wrists. BTW, lately, I feel like it's my favorite watch too, but I go through phases...

I hardly wear my 126334 either since I got my DD40.
The Jubilee looks 'cheap' after wearing the president bracelet! And the watch seems too light to me! Who had believed it one day that I could feel and write that

Depends on what you're used to wear. In my case, I found the DJ41 small at the AD. For a minute I thought it was a 36mm, had to double check with the a SA and the model ref on the hangtag. My brain had to adapt coming from wearing mostly divers. Felt better after a few minutes.

You’re not alone. I’ve heard a number of owners of both preferring the DD40 sizing/fit and proportions over the DJ41.

The DJ41 would be killer at 38.5mm imo….but would likely do away with the 36mm which will never happen.

I have a 40 mm gold sub and 40mm SS gmt. My 166333 DJII is 41mm and feels very substantial on my wrist which is arou d 8.5 inches. I hae 13 links on the DJII.

Same here. I tried it on at my AD. Too big! I need the 36, and am on the list, but instructed my SA I’m in no hurry. I want to enjoy my OP for awhile.

For me too big as well, the 36 is the sweet spot for dressier watches imho

I can relate. I had a DJ41 and recently traded it in. After I tried on my dad's DJ36, I couldn't help but think that it was a much better size for my 6.8" wrist. Every time I wore my DJ41 from that point forward, it became a nagging thought, how it looked like a dinner plate on such a modestly sized wrist. Now waiting for my own DJ36, hoping it'll come sooner than later.

Not a fan of the DJ41.....bezel is too thick and out of proportions....too bad it can't mimic the classic lines of the DJ36.....

Some of it is getting use to the visual of a watch on the wrist. Some of it is truly the size of the watch in relationship to the size of the wrist. There is such a thing as a watch being too small on the wrist or too large and while we all defer to the thought process that you can do what you want, watches that are in reasonable proportion to the wrist look better. I am a fan of the DD II and the DJ II, might be one of the few out here, but proportionately they look better to me on my 7.5-7.75 inch wrist. Find what works best, either the DJ36 or another and go with it.

DateJusts are pouring into the ADs. If you really want one and they know you, you should be able to get one within weeks to a month or 2 at most.

DJs are best at 36mm. It’s not just about the size. It’s the design. Too much real estate on the dial of the 41mm DJ.

I alternate between a DJ36 and Submariner 40mm. Tried on the DJ41 at my local AD and it just felt too big and blingy. Something the 36 doesn’t seem to go over the top with. I also have 6.5 wrists.

I think the DJ 41 has proportion problems. Not as extreme as the previous 116 Subs, but enough of an issue that I sold my only DJ41 long ago.

I am also of the belief that DDs, DJs and OPs all look better in 36 than 40/41.

I had an OP39, which I sold (the only Rolex I've sold), and from the many comparisons posted online, I've learned that the OP39 and OP41 are actually much more similar in size and proportion than people would think.

Based on this, I originally wanted a DJ41. I tried them on back to back and the DJ36 made much more sense for the type of watch it is, especially with a fluted bezel and jubilee.

Maybe a smooth bezel/oyster combo with a sportier look would have worked better in 41mm, but the DJ41 looked way too big on my 7" wrist... and I regularly wear 44mm watches. It really depends on the type of watch, the lug to lug, thickness, case shape...

Hasn't it been confirmed that the DJ 41 is actually 39mm?
I have one and it's definitely not 41mm.

Almost the exact same size as explorer 39 and a perfect fit for any wrist greater than 6 inches.

Less than 6 inch wrist? Then maybe too big.

the DJ 41 is small, it wears like a 39-40. The lugs are not massive but quite sweeping, so the lug to lug is 47.5mm, which is small IMHO. The oyster bracelet adds a cm or so either side as it does not fall vertically from the lugs. I can understand why someone with a very small wrist, say 6" might think it is too big, but for me, I like to have the presence, and combined with the thinness (11.7) it wears most comfortably on my 6.7" wrist. I tried the 36mm but it is too small. The same with the Tudor 36mm, 39mm and 41. The 39mm and 41mm fit fine, the main difference is a bit more weight with the 41mm, but the 36mm just slides around on my wrist. I prefer the stability of a watch that almost reaches the sides of my wrist with the lugs.

I like the DJ and DD in 36 or 40/41 - just different looks. The 36 looks more dressy and elegant, while the 40/41 feels more sporty. Both look great.

Explorers are a different story - 36mm only for me.
