Panerai Issued to Comsubin

I managed to obtain this Panerai COMSUBIN from a dealer in Italy. The COMSUBIN are the Italian Naval Special Forces (“Comando Subacquei Ed Incursori”).

This piece, which bears reference #PAM 1059, was not available to the public. Rather, it was a special military supply for the commanders and operators of the COMSUBIN. http://www.clubpanerai.com/index.asp...3094&codice=15

While it is an “issued” watch in this sense, it’s intent does not appear to be for field usage but rather as an honorary piece for members of the outfit.

I say this because it bears the Naiad-style bayonette case back (and 100M) water resistance rather than the deeper depth rating of a submersible. The bayonette system allowed for perfect alignment of the coat of arms on the back.

330 pieces were made, the number 33 having a special meaning to the COMSUBIN because it marks the number of hero’s honored by the unit.

In any event, a very cool and rarely seen piece that I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to acquire.

That is really really cool!!!
Limited/special editions are the best, specially the ones that most people don’t even know about!

Great score!
