Patek is so boring
I have been waiting for them to come up with something interesting for years now. I love the minute repeaters but they are out of my budget. Other than that? I dont know.
I LOVE the 5159 retrograde perpetual calender. That watch is a piece of art. Its so romantic. So yellow gold. I love it. Is it boring? Kind of. It lacks something. I dont know. But I adore that model. It will be my first PP unless Patek comes up with something new. I am in Geneva now.You guys need to visit this place. Watches and history everywhere. Expensive tho yet the CHF is cheaper than tbe EUR. Nautilus. That rounded octagon shape that still has corners? So not exactly rounded? I find it hideous. Thabk god because they are impossible to get. No one does minute repeaters, yellow gold and perpetual calenders (except for FPJ) better than PP. If Basel doesnt bring anything interesting I will own a Patek (5159J) but just because I dont like anything else. This is my personal preferance. Dont get offended by it. What are you up to? Any plans? |

I agree with you about the 5159r... it’s gorgeous !!!
I must say I’m not really a PP fan either, I find them quite boring as well ... Not that their watches aren’t top notch grade but their designs are not that appealing to me... I may get flamed but so be it . Very very few PP references that tickle my fancy ... |

if you are considering the 5159, also look at their predecessors, the 5050 and the 5059. They are a bit smaller in diameter compared to the 5159, but the 5050 is probably be more "collectible" with smaller production numbers compared to the 5159.
I agree that there is something special about the Patek perpetual calendars with a retrograde date. |

Not sure if it is fair to label a watch company as being boring, when one could not afford its interesting pieces.

Yes I find their <300,000 CHF pieces boring. I don't see why you think that is a problem? What percentage of Pateks revenue do you think comes from minute repeaters?

Patek is most definitely not boring, it merely takes a discerning eye to find interest.

I don’t find it boring. Patek is a conservative brand.
I like the Nautilus. Oh, and I got one too. |

Have you considered the 5522? It's far from boring.

I'm glad I have the 5131R
I like the idea behind the 5231, in particular the region customized enamel disk. I'm also a fan of yellow gold. The case is interesting, I like the crisp lines but I think if I had to pick I prefer the crown guard and smoother look of the previous model. |

The reason the PP is so highly regarded is the quality of the watches, the variability of complications, and the aesthetic of the presentation. I would not use the word 'boring' ever. Perhaps, distinguished, refined, understated are a few that come to mind.

Patek is so boring
Something eerily wrong with saying Patek and boring in the same sentence.

I think OP should focus on the indies. You may find more surprises there. And about the round octagonal watch... hahaha

No reason to buy a watch just because you do not like anything else and find the line boring. Was there a point to your post?
