New to Patek - Waitlist explanantions, new 57261A-014
Hi all,
I'm new to the whole waitlist scene for Patek, and was hoping someone could explain to me if I'm doing something wrong. The 5726 released a few days ago is stunning, and I'm trying to be proactive about getting myself on a list somewhere. I've called a few dealers around me (I'm in Düsseldorf, Germany) and the responses I've gotten have ranged from either "We have too many high profile clients who want it already" to "It's not possible to purchase this watch". One did say they have no information other than its release and won't take a list of anyone until they get the info from Patek, which might be true of the rest. If that's the case, when should I approach them about getting on a list? I figured it'd be ridiculous if it's already impossible to buy 1 day after announcement, but it is Patek I suppose. Thanks in advance! |

It’s not just Patek. Rolex, Patek, AP. It’s the way of the world right now. Not much you can do. If you’re unable to buy from your AD which most are your only option is to pay the heavily inflated gray prices.

I´m pretty sure that this isn´t the reply you´re hoping for but by calling various PP ADs in metropolitan areas you will never get on the 'list' for a hot new release - if this 'mysterious list' exists anyway.
For a first time buyer it´s pretty much impossible to get a blue Nautilus of some sort from an AD these days. I´d try to visit a smaller family operated AD and let them know that you´re genuinely interested and have a passion for watches, that might help. Good luck. |

Welcome to TRF and the waitlist :)
Without sugar coating it, unless you already have buying history from a AD or a good relationship from other watch sales, it may be difficult to get ever. Assuming you have a few rolex and no Patek’s I would say your best bet is to go Grey if you ate 100% sold on this watch. Its highly unlikely to get a any nautilus as a first piece without some sort of relationship with the AD on jewelry or other watches. Good luck |

If I was to start my watch collecting days now, I'd be a lost soul too. It sucks, but you either need to ask your mates who have a list with an AD to help you out or wait patiently / go back in and bug them every week / check out their stock.
Ultimately what you could do is buy some undesirable piece and tell them "hey I bought this slow moving dead piece, can you give me something hot now?" |

Even with a 'soft' relationship with an AD, I am just not a big enough buyer in terms of dollars to get the PP I want so I just go to the gray market and pay the premium. By the time I would have gotten a piece 3-5+ years later, I lost out on that many years enjoying the piece. I don't get to emotional about it. Today's gray market pricing is in line with current auction results from what I've seen.

The times of emailing and calling are over. You need to build a good relationship with your AD. Or buy grey.

You got a wife, mother, any family who also want a Patek or preferably two? If so your chances of getting one of these hotties doubles.

Yeah, pretty much the case. I moved here recently and don't have any sort of relationship at the AD's here. I have a friend here who's bought dozens (if not hundreds) over the past several years from a Wempe, but unfortunately this Wempe doesn't carry Patek. Might be worth exploring the relationship though to source from another Wempe maybe. |

It’s unfortunate but based on what you’re saying, it seems the only way you’ll have this watch on your wrist is to pay the $100k price tag on the grey market.

OP i would recommend going 5164a on the grey market. Or 5712g on strap after market. The prices of those 2 are reasonable in the secondary market |

I'm gonna guess $100K will be about right for the new 5276. That's prob the best estimate for gray.

100k would even be a higher premium than the 5711. I don’t see that happening. 80k maybe.

Waitlists have become crazy over the past few years. It may be best to wait until the craziness settles down or another global recession hits

im, betting it pushes 100k... everyone with pockets that deep already has a 5711 if they want it. No one has this

Meh, I discovered it was better to just scrap having an avatar altogether. Raised too many questions when it changed. Also removed my collection from my sig for obscurity.

when you move 25 watches a year people start to think you need to go to a meeting for that. We are concerned
