Hamilton Incoming

A friend of mine who owed me a favor or two gave me a Benrus watch that was issued as a limited edition, 50th anniversay, D-Day commemorative that he's had for about 25 years, knowing that I'm a watch nut.

It needs a service, so I took it in today to the watchmaker at one of the local jewelry stores today to have him check it out and give me an estimate.

In the meantime, I saw this automatic Hamilton Khaki in the showcase and after taking a gander at it, I just felt compelled to purchase it.

I have a quartz Khaki that I've had for about a decade that needs a new battery and an new crystal and I've been putting that off for quite awhile and checking out the automatic versions online.

I wasn't sure if I'd ever spring for one because the price falls in a range that I'm kind of reluctant to spend on watches, between about $300 and $3000.

However, being face to face with in the store, I couldn't resist and I put it on lay-away and even got a discount on the service of the Benrus.

I was thinking I'd let it stay in lay-away at least until next month, but I might just pick it up when the Benrus is ready for pick-up.

Anyway, here's an ugly picture. There will be more to follow.

Thanks a lot, everyone.

I couldn't help myself.

I got it out of layaway today.

My other Hamilton Khaki has been out of rotation for so long that I'd forgotten just what a classic this watch is and at a very good price, too.

This particular model is especially nice with the polished bezel and long, graceful hands.

Looks super Grady! Not much beats Hamilton in that price range. Seiko is only thing close for me.

I own one and gifted one. A classic watch for a reasonable (for me) price.
