Was Robbed at Starbucks selling watch FACE TO FACE

08/17/2017 932pm. I was at a Starbucks in Orange CA. The buyer showed up and looked at the watch and made a sprint for the door. I chased him down and made a last minute attempt and tried to tackle him down but missed by about 1/4 inch. He actually fell but got back up and went into a Blue Honda CRV. This chain of robberies has been happening all over So Cal. The watch was listed on TRF and CL. But the call came today from CL from a guy posing to be someone else. The guy that showed up was a African American about 5ft 9'' 160 pounds. His phone number is 951-287-6227. Watch stolen was a Breitling Navitimer 46mm. The thief stole the watch , links , and appraisal from the Original Seller. I still have the box and papers. Please email me if you see a Navitimer for sale. Thanks

No I screamed for a few people to stop him and they moved out of the way. There was 3 guys there too. Last minute attempt I throw myself about 5ft and pulled him down but I was only able to grab a small piece of his shirt and he bounced back up. I then starting chasing him in the parking lot but suddenly a Honda CRV popped up with 3 guys and I decided to stop. The only reason I met at Starbucks was because the guy who called was telling me that he was married with kids and seemed like a nice guy. I let my guard down which I usually do not do. This will be the last time I do a face to face by myself.

Check for cameras the rest of the route

I'm just shaking my head at people in the world today. I'm glad you're okay. Bad enough to get robbed but to possibly be hurt in the process, sheesh.

Yes really sucks. These scammers are getting better and better. Makes me only want to do wire deals only. No more face to face. I am 6ft 4 220 Pounds. I was about 1 /2 away from pounding this guy. Unfortunately the whole thing seemed planned out. There were two girls that got here texting right before the guy arrived. What a coincidence that they were in my way when I was chasing the guy. Everything happened so quickly I cannot believe it. Police , Starbuck Employees and also people at Starbucks were not help at all!

Well I would not even buy a coffee at Starbucks - that said the staff get paid peanuts so they are not going to risk their lives.
Yes the two girls were "moles"

Sorry to hear about this. What store in Orange was it? As someone mentioned if it's in an area with other shops, ask them if they have any cameras that could possibly capture the license plate or faces of the scumbags.

Richard, so sorry! I have the pleasure of living in the 5th most dangerous city in the country (Albuquerque, NM). This type of thing happens daily here, and i'm sure everywhere in the country. People are ridiculous and disgusting. While I'm sorry about your watch I'm glad you're OK as many times this ends up with a person being victimized twice (theft + gunshot). Being that you're in CA I know only the criminals can carry guns :)

Perhaps I'm uninformed but maybe posting the serial number here will result in the future purchasers google results indicating its stolen and lead to the return of your watch. Think of search engine placement in "Breitling Navitimer SN 12344568 STOLEN"

Would also consider saving a search profile on eBay within 200 miles of your zip code so everytime a navitimer pops up for sale you'll get an e-mail, you can do the same on craigslist. Here's a link within 200 miles of 92705 https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...=92705&_fspt=1

I did a Facebook search on the phone number - no guarantee as numbers change often but there is a profile associated with that number. Maybe go through the "friends" list and see if anyone looks farmilliar from that night.

For some reason people always suggest meeting at Starbucks, I assume because there are a lot of them, they're open late, and they always have people... personally I always meet a bank... police stations are also allowing themselves to be used as safe meet up points for CL and Offerup transactions.... I can't imagine too many people at Starbucks being willing to wrestle down a thief for a stranger... especially around LA where everyone is pretty much in their own world... I recently heard of another guy robbed the same way and told him to post here on TRF... this was his CL post... might be the same guy... email him if it is as he appears to have the guys name and info!!

What a terrible incident. Really sorry to hear this but glad you are ok.
What is the world coming too. So many people out there living as full time grifters. No doubt getting free healthcare and other entitlements but still scamming those who foot the bill.
I hope they get caught.

Were there any outside mounted cameras that might have this guys identity captured? Perhaps on the Starbucks building itself?

Very sorry to hear about this OP, but at least you're not hurt.

Seems more and more of these incidents are happening recently.

Hope this piece of gets what he deserves!

Sounds like this was the one on Tustin St/Meats. You might want to check with the Target store as they may have cameras located outside. Have you asked the Urgent Care for any outside video?

Hope you find them.

Very sorry to hear of this. At least you're OK, and perhaps there's insurance to cover the loss. You may want to report the watch's serial number to the manufacturer as stolen, so that if it's ever brought in for service, it will be confiscated.

It is easy to comment on this horrible event after it has happened. However, if I was in the store and all this happened I would have no idea who is the good guy and who is the bad one. Also, you get involved and tackle the wrong person. Then you have a lawsuit against you. I wouldn't blame the bystanders, just the criminal and his cohorts.

Agree but something was really weird. None of the Starbucks employees were willing to call the cops at all It was a very weird situation and I got no assistance from the employees at all.
