Looks like someone has a pretty good catch then. But current market outlook is bad and things can get worse. So...

WOW.
5711 and 5712 really hit bad... wow wow.

Edited to add - "Hit bad" is an understatement - they've been smashed.

Well it had to happen.

Looks very low for this reference (3711?). A bargain in 2018 and early 2019.

When I viewed the results yesterday evening the realized price (which includes the buyers premium) was stating $32k however today it is stating $40k which is much more in line.

I don’t have a dog in this fight. A lot of us have been hopeful of a break in the fever of high prices we’ve seen for the past few years. I would say the Christie’s auction skewed to the low side, but I wouldn’t over exaggerate it as smashing or earthshaking. The slightly lower than expected interest may have been due to it being the third auction in three days following Sotheby’s and Phillips, which were mostly in line with expectations, aside from crazy speculative hype about the Nicklaus and Brando pieces.

For this Christie’s auction, apart from a couple of bargain prices for Lange pieces, it’s difficult to characterize this as a trend. I didn’t read the condition reports or view in person the pieces that went for a lower than expected bid. To keep things in perspective, for those few Patek references that came one bid short of the norm, the retail clients still had to pay an additional 8.875 sales tax on top of the listed price.

It does appear that dealers are less willing to chase certain models, perhaps because of well stocked inventories or perhaps mere fatigue. Maybe this signals a break in the craziness. But I would caution those eager to portray this one auction as the tipping point. We will have to wait for the Spring auctions in Geneva to make any real determinations. But we can hope.

But this piece is well worn, the dial looks terrible and it has no original papers and no box. Vintage 3700 pieces are all about the condition, original papers and Cork box.

What does someone call that dial? vintage gold or garbage?

The dial looks beautifully aged to me. There is an extract despite no original papers. Yeah that may affect value but you are looking at a hefty 50% discount without papers and box, for a watch sold in 1977. I don't think it is all that.

How much do you think this 3700 is worth then, if "only 80k" is an issue to you?

70k, or 60k? assuming you are looking at a lower figure. A 2018 5711 is 56k at the same auction.
