I've got decent sized wrists, and while the DJ is certainly smaller than my other watches, it still has great wrist presence and wears very comfortably. 36mm is a classic size.

Hi Ryan,
I have owned a 36mm OP, and it really hits the sweet spot. Actually I would say it wears more like 38mm. Good luck.

Hopefully. Its why dress watches are soft at the moment. They got too big and no longer suited the purpose for dress or anything else.

Big fan of 34, 36mm. Barely know they’re there. Understated sophistication.

Welcome! You enjoy this form a lot! 36 mm is fine for a normal size rest. I have three of them, standard issue, they just. They look great

If lugs are not almost covering the flat surface of my wrist the watch is small to my eyes.
This is how I pick my watches.

That’s fine. That’s your preference.

But it’s not the conventional way a watch is supposed to fit, classically, or modern.

At one time the 36mm DJ was actually considered a big watch as men of all sizes wore very elegantly dress watches of 30mm to 34mm. Unless you have a really large wrist the 36mm will look better as more of the bracelet will show. 40mm watches can be very head heavy on average size wrists.

This look always makes me smile, especially on the little, hairless wrists that post around here. Looks like kids borrowing dads' watches for prom.

Rolex Datejust 36mm too small for man's wrist?

I love my 36mm DD-WG

Obviously I'm in the minority here but I do think 36mm is just too small, I usually wear the gmt or submariner and even find a daytona too small and looks feminine to me.
I really wanted to give 36mm a try and went to buy a 18238 day date last week but when I saw it compared to the gmt I was wearing it's very underwhelming to say the least.
As a minimum I'd say datejust 41 and if you like slightly chunkier datejust II

I know, it's me and it's making me lose many nice watches that I would love to wear but can't due to this issue of looking too small to my eyes.
I skipped the BLNR / BLRO due to this issue. 40mm Rolex looks small on my wrist while in reality I know they are fine for 99.99 % of 7.5" wrist persons. :-(
PS: When taking pictures of those 40mm models on my wrist they look beautiful and bigger to when I look at them with my eyes !
Should see an ophthalmologist :-)

36mm watches look great on most men. A lot of people on this forum wear watches that are too big for them. Sometimes I think they should change the name of this forum to: “Big watches on tiny wrists.”

I think it's whatever you want it to be! I was 'nervous' about making such a large purchase and going with 36mm and then not being happy. Quite the opposite! Now when I put on my other 39-42mm they seem huge after wearing my Datejust nearly every day. For context I have a ~6.25-.5" wrist.

Most men born before 1970. And then there are men born after 1970 - when nutrition was better, health care increased, smoking became a cancer/growth inhibitor, pregnant women didn't smash 12 standards drinks a day along with an ounce of weed... and you end up with the new generation - of which I am one - and the 36 looks like a toy.

I was in an AD yesterday in Singapore and had a 36mm on even the salesperson, trying to sell the watch, said it looked ridiculous.

Times change...we got it
But you should be smart enough to know that the salesperson was trying to sell you something larger and more expensive. No matter the looks...

I'd agree with you - if they had that "something larger and more expensive" to sell.

But don't let logic get in the way.

I was born in the 80's and have eaten healthy home cooked food most of my life. I had a very active outdoor childhood. I'm still underweight for my height and that's just due to my natural chemical and physical make-up. I don't wear corrective glasses, don't need a single prescription medication and hardly ever catch colds.

To think just because obesity is becoming a norm around the world doesn't mean everyone who is younger has the same body type, interests, styles, etc. I like classic looks over modern. I had a 39mm OP and didn't like the way it looked on me. Too much dial and too little bezel for a three hand watch. For others it can be perfect. When they were born or what they eat doesn't matter. If you're going to spew out false pseudoscience crap at least form complete sentences.

Funny how they usually suggest the more expensive larger one and play on big egos. "All the men are wearing the largest sizes available, you know."

There has been a slow drift in perception (from the lat 90's) that the only acceptable "man's" watch is 38 mm or greater, or even >42mm!...the same kind of drift that caused young lads to wear their jean's waist dropping near the knees!

I sense we're past that "peak size perception" given all the <40mm releases by majors.

Besides, the DJ has virtually an integrated bracelet so 36 mm makes a lot of sense because the bracelet takes on a lot of visual weight.
