I think I read everything I need to know about Tudor chronos from this one post Many thanks to the contributors!

Here's a 79270 that I picked up recently with box & papers and s/n. B63.....,
so I guess it's a mid 90s mfg. Has Rolex case & crown.

Question for the experts: Is the Prince date instead of Oysterdate correct for this series? Thanks in advance.

Great looking chrono, thanks for sharing.

With a Rolex logo crown and case back typically you'd also find an Oysterdate dial. However, during the release of this reference every combo of Rolex and Tudor logos can be found on crowns, case backs, and dials. So, yes. The Prince Date dial is likely original.

Sorry for digging this up, was doing my research in my search for the Tiger, finally got myself one last November NOS from the AD.

All the postings here have been a big help also in my search for a Panda dial (white dial with black sub-register) and I have 1 incoming from the AD. Will update once it's here.

thanks everyone.

This thread deserves to never die! I'm looking at one know and I can't imagine I could have been "schooled up" any faster than reading through these 5 pages. Amazing stuff. Now I actually know what to ask.

I have a 94300 BB and I am able to source a tachy black bezel from a 79260. The question is will the bezel fit or will I have to make modifications?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

AFAIK, it should fit fine. Although, since the 94300 has a plex crystal I would get another option, just in case.

Thanks Dan. Here's a photo of the bezel on the watch. I thought it should simply fit over the crystal and sit on top of the existing one but as you can see it seems to catch the sides of the crystal. I wonder if the crystal is removed if it would fit.

Tudor 79280P

First, thanks for this awesome thread.

Second, my questions....

1. Would it be possible to list the a Tudor Chrono models chronologically? I am trying to understand which models came out when and am confused. Seems some models overlap and were produced at the same time? For example 79280 and 79280P?

2. Is the reference 79280P the last reference produced by Tudor (2003 to 2008)?

3. I just got a 79280P, serial number H101xxx. Would really appreciate it if anyone could help date the watch.

Thank you for your time.

Can anyone verify that the bezel ring on a 79170 removes like an old GMT 1675? I.e., carefully pop it off with a butter knife or whatever? If it has a spring washer under it like the Rolexes of the day I need to bend mine a bit to make it harder to turn.

Thanks. It did pop off, but not easily. No flat metal spring washer ring under it, but there was an o-ring around the crystal. I guess there's no way to adjust the tension on the bezel.

Bezel is hard to turn...

My bezel is hard to turn. Is there a way to loosen it up without using a lubricant??. Is it true it just pops off with a little prying...I'm a little scared.

Get a blunt table or butter knife and fold a small section of masking tape across the blade to protect the watch from scratches. Put the butter knife across both lugs (either end) and pry it off. Mine didn't come off easily, harder than my GMT. Clean off any debris that is present, but watch out for the o-ring that fits around the crystal. If you use any lubricant I would not use one that is greasy or sticky, as that would attract dirt, but I would have a qualified watchmaker recommend a lubricant if called for.

I posted another message in the Rolex Watchtech section, so you might want to venture over there and post a reply with this question.

Mystery number...

What a great thread. I recently fell victim to the charms of a Tudor chrono and got a very nice 79280P Tiger and this thread has gotten me up to speed on chrono history and the various models that have been available over the years.

I read the thread carefully and have a question I didn't see addressed. I'd like to confirm that the model number on the cert translates to; the T is for tritium, P is for polished and I'm guessing the 59 is bracelet or strap? Dial color, 'opaline' is indicated separately so the 59 is the big mystery.

Again, thanks for creating this chrono chronology!

Well done, Tony!

Very helpful thread for those interested in learning about some great classic chronographs with multiple options to insure you get exactly what you want.

Wearing one of my favorites today, 79270P w/ Oysterdate dial.
