Is this normal for an Oyster bracelet

Ok, so I'm afraid I know the answer to this, but is this normal for an Oyster bracelet? I bought this 78350 here on the forums to wear with my 6238. After wearing it for only a couple of days I've noticed these scuffs all over the clasp and adjacent links. The only thing this would have rubbed on is the plastic laminate on my desk while typing. I've never had a bracelet scuff this badly even on cheap watches. Is this an indication that it's a fake?

That's a lot of wear for a couple days. You must have really rubbed on that plastic laminate. Can't imagine what a year would look like. Take off the watch when you're at the desk. I've started doing that recently.

Any type of desk top will do this. It will literally wear a flat spot on the clasp and bracelet.

Those scrub pads that have yellow sponge on on e side and green plastic style scrubber on the other work well. cut into a 2 inch square, dampen and use long stroke in the same direction as the current grain and will come out no problem!

Ok, this really surprised me. So, I went back and looked at my inexpensive Bulova that I often wear to work and it's HEAVILY worn in the exact same place. I just never paid attention to it. Guess that's what having a brand new bracelet does.


I have an old vinyl drafting pad that I can put under my keyboard that should minimize any further wear.

Looks normal. I've been careful not to rest my wrist on the desk (apparently its not ergonomic to do that anyway). Gotta be especially careful with MacBooks and other metal laptops.

Place a microfiber cloth beneath your arm to avoid further "desk-diving-damage."

Any sort of desktop is hard on clasps.

Don't worry about little scuffs and scratches. They add character, and life's too short.

Mine looks nothing like that but then I practice what I call watch strap etiquette and that is I am mindful of the position of my wrist while wearing a watch with a steel bracelet.

I’m sure what damage your bracket has incurred can be addressed during service but for me I would have to have it addressed now as my brain won’t allow me to look at it.

I get busy and don't think about it and end up with my wrist on the desk. The vinyl mat should take care of any further scuffing. I'm similar in that it will drive me nuts until I get it fixed. I may try a couple of the suggestions above.

My 6239 did the same thing after a few weeks of use. I simply used 1200 grit and wet sanded. 5 mins all as new.
