Help on 3/3 for the 3 Watch Collection

Hello TRF. First post, so forgive any transgressions. I've been a lurker on the TRF for several years and have really enjoyed reading all of the discussions and using the forum as a tool for research. I have made a couple purchases on TRF, which went went very smooth. So, thank you to the entire community for making this place so great.

My current Rolex 2 piece: Sea Dweller 116600 (from ponycar350) & Air King 116900 (from local AD). I'll post pics when I get enough posts under my belt.

I am looking to add a third watch to my collection. I plan on adding something in SS. I am open to new or vintage. I prefer the 40-44 mm range. But, I'd dip down for the right watch.

Given the current SS, I'd love to hear thoughts on the all important 3rd watch for my Rolex collection. Important factors for me are two-fold: 1. The "it factor". 2. Value retention.

Thanks for the input! Also, I am a police officer (Los Angeles County). If you ever have any law enforcement related questions, especially California specific, please feel free to message me.

welcome! I think specifically your missing a GMT. SD, AK, and GMT would be a great TRIO.

Perhaps a different dial color than black? Hard to beat the explorer II polar, either the 5 or 6 digit variant. Can dress up, but certainly withstand the hard use or your job.

I would add a white dial Daytona 116500 or a datejust 41 with a dial other than black to dress up your collection.

44 mm ss ym 2. If you want wrist presence buy used and it won't dip. Otherwise a skydweller with white or black dial

White dial Milgauss may not be too hard to source, and provide some variety to what you already have. Daytona if you’re willing to pay up.

I sense a theme in the OP’s current collection: reasonably uncomplicated and all brushed bracelet. Given his profession, this makes a lot of sense (depending on what type of duties he’s typically performing). I like the suggestion for a white dial OP 39, though it’s footprint on the wrist will be similar to the AK. We’re it not even more similar, I’d advocate an Exp I. Though an Exp II polar is great, too.

I appreciate all of the input! I’m spending my off day tomorrow researching white dial references!

What is a reasonable price to pick up an 116500 for (after market)?

That’s how I tend to justify it in my head.

Explorer II is on the short list. You mind educating me on the difference in digit variance here?

Exp 2 Polar or if you want something a little dressier a blue or white dial DJ2.

If you want some extra wrist presence a SS YM2 would be great.

If you like bigger watches a Daytona will be disappointing...it's smaller than 40mm.

You have Sea and Air, so next should be Land obviously.

An Explorer Polar would go a treat with those two. Not impossible to get either - this month!

I'd go with a GMTII in Pepsi whether used or new, five digit or six digit. Five digit allows bezel insert swaps as well!!! These are good for value retention. Otherwise I'd go with a Daytona or ExpII with the ExpII a bit poorer on value retention and it factorism.

For a police officer, an Explorer 2 would be great.

Explorer ll might be a good choice for you to round out your collection. 42mm GMT that wears very comfortable..

Appreciate all the feedback! I had a great conversation with my AD today and I should have an Incoming in the next 2-3 months. I’ll make sure to post it back here.

Exp1 or exp2. Then you will have sea, land and air combo!

Welcome to the forum! We were just out in LA (Santa Monica) for Spring Break and loved every second of it. You have a fantastic duo already. A white dial Milgauss would be super nice with those two black dial models. The Rolex AD in Korea Town has a brand new one in inventory. It has a lot of polish which would be a nice contrast to two brushed finishes.

Good luck deciding!
