If you had 5 nice watches, I could understand having both.
If you only have 2 nice watches, seems redundant to me.

A SubC would be all the dive with I need, especially since I don't dive. With your other potential choice, I'd take either Explorer.

Bumping my own thread. AD called with an sd43. … going tomorrow or day after. Should I wear my 114060 sub. my speedy, or luminor on the way there?

BUT .... I was thinking about the SD 43. The red lettering has my attention. I have a somewhat scrawny 7" wrist, but I wear a speedmaster comfortably - so I'm thinking a Sea Dweller might be fine too.

My real question is to you, the already multiple Rolex owners: Is buying an SD 43 right after buying a Sub just a bad idea because they're too similar?

Thoughts?
flip the sub and get the SD43, you wont regret it.

I have two Submariners, two Sea-Dweller 43s, and a Deep Sea. Rolex dive watches are marvelous pieces and there is enough variation between the models to justify collecting all three in the modern Rolex dive watch series.

Keep the Sub and let your new best bud on TRF buy the SD43 since he is still waiting to get his first Rolex.

Congrats and hopefully I get the call on one for me soon.

wow this pic just further reinforces my decision to get a SD43 over a sub, it just kills it in terms of looks.

Sd43 after wearing for many years 16600 and Deepsea was a great surprise and I would not miss this purchase.

Might i ask your wrist size? i have a 7”, but this is somewhat misleading as I’m not a small guy and I don’t think my 44mm luminor is ridiculous….

Always enjoyable Panerai (004 Pvd)

DEEPSEA exaggerated and beautiful

16600 very balanced

Answer you’re going to get are subjective. On that note my vote is no. The SD 43 is a very large watch and on most people it looks too big. This is JMo and you know what they say about opinions

more comfortable SD43, they are imposing and not discreet watches

I sold the Panerai and the SD43 has only been with me for 4 weeks

the SD43 wears much smaller than a 44mm luminor.

I actually did exactly this, flipped my sub for a SD43, and ABSOLUTELY regretted it. Flipped back very shortly after.

The sub is the best. Classic Rolex looks, more comfortable, more versatile.

I’ve heard of people who have done just that, and regretted it

Of my divers, I wear DSSD the most, then the SD43. The 116610ln gets the least wrist time, it just feels so small & nonexistent... The 116618lb is totally another story, love the heft and the feel on the wrist. It is meant for the special occasions in one’s life !

Not an issue at all. I have the SD4K and would love to add any Sub if I could.

Money no object I’d own a Sub and a SeaSweller. Since that’s not the case I’d choose one and have something else a little more different if I wanted multiple watches.

I found the SD to be very uncomfortable. I've posted about it before. You can search and see. I have/had lots of subs.

I got a SD43 and soon after sold my SubC and DSSD. My SD43 covers it all. Great watch.

Hi William, what do you mean by cost of ownership? My SD43 is only a year old, so I’d be interested to know what you mean by this. Thanks!

I currently own a Hulk and a YG Submariner 116618LB and enjoy them but I wear my Seiko/Grand Seiko/Tudor divers more and enjoy them more, for now. I have been playing with watches for 30 years and in that time I have figured out what works for me. I have also found out that tastes change and life situations and I wear the watches I like. I will also buy/sell/trade a watch in a heartbeat should I want. If you want the SD43 and can afford it, add it to the collection and see how it compares to the Submariner. You will know in a month or two. Good luck and keep us posted.

....Yes. I'd like to know that too? Is there something about the SD43 I should know??? I'm heading to my AD tomorrow.

I'm always stung by the frustrating Tudor BBGMT date wheel issue that put me off buying a watch I really liked. It has staked my confidence a bit in the Rolex/Tudor world.....

sub is a classic, so I wouldn't get rid of it. Add the SD if you like it and the fit is good.

:) I'm a tough one I'm a reasonably big guy with a small wrist. Watches that work on me : Luminor 44mm, Speedy Pro, all dial dress watches that are 40mm or 38ish MM. My sub C, by contrast, looks pretty small - almost vintage - on my arm. So - I'm not afraid of SD43 - but it's not a slam dunk either.
