Personally they do nothing for me but it must be great to be given the product and get paid for wearing the products.

I love Rolex. I don't have a clue who its ambassadors are, and I don't care.

I know of two recent ones for Tudor, but neither would move me to buy bath tissue, let alone a luxury watch.

If people who want to be sheep, want to be like their idols, and want what their idols have (or appear to have), then Rolex would be remiss not to exploit it. It's easy money.

Other people will please themselves. Which category we each fall into doesn't really make any difference. I don't know if Brand Ambassadors work. I expect Rolex knows. I don't need to know, Rolex do.

Yes very true, the biggest compliment Rolex received, but how many outside the community know about Mr. Dufour ?

Ask my wife. I don't listen to anyone. Including "Brand Ambassadors".

I do pay attention to Paige Spiranac however.

As someone's already said on this thread, the brand ambassador has absolutely no influence on the true WIS whatsoever.

However, in the celebrity/social media obsessed 'rest-of-society' I'm sure they do bring the brand into the public eye a little more, meaning that those same celebrity/social media obsessed individuals want to be associated with that lifestyle.

The thing is, the wrong choice of brand ambassador can be quite a mistake. For example (and I'm making no judgement on the guy here myself - I'm just relaying comments I've seen on the IWC Facebook feed), IWC's hiring of the somewhat polarising Lewis Hamilton hasn't gone down well with more than a few IWC fans.

For me (as espanol said earlier here), unpaid ambassadors like Philippe Dufour who simply CHOOSE to wear a company's watches are far more complementary to the brand. But a (relatively speaking) obscure master watchmaker doesn't carry anywhere near the same weight in the eyes of the general public than a Roger Federer.

I was very clear to preface in saying this is of personal opinion. No doubt ambassadors carry more weight to the masses.

It works and it’s needed, as one piece of the marketing pie for rolex and other major brands.
For me personally, no influence whatsoever.

I think one has to ask...what came first? The chicken or the egg? Personally, I think Rolex already had a brand long before getting some big names as ambassadors. Rolex is very deliberate. I will leave with this...

"I'm going to go buy a Tag Heuer because Leonardo DiCaprio wears one" - said by no one, ever.

David Beckham makes a lot of sense for a lot of reasons. He's a sports legend and then more recently become sort of a fashion icon.

But Lady Gaga I don't quite get. But I'm sure I'm not the target audience for her ambassadorship LOL

Agreed, paid endorsers do not care about the products they are compensated for.

Did anyone see the Hodinkee “Talking Watches” episode with Greg Norman? My least favorite one ever. “I got these watches when I represented Omega. Then I got these when Tag hired me.” Yes, it’s not an actual quote, but it was the gist of how I took it.

I don’t really know who is an ambassador for who, except for Federer and Woods and a couple more. I sincerely doubt it has any subliminal impact on me, just like seeing Nike or Fila tennis shirts on a pro doesn’t sway me either.

OBVIOUSLY we are FAR too sophisticated to be influenced by brand ambassadors but the rest of the population are.

If brand ambassadors, product placement in movies, celebrity endorsements and influencers didn’t work, corporations wouldn’t be paying them.

But the fact of the matter is, humans for some bizarre reason are heavily influenced by celebrity, by flashing lights and by shiny things. I have no idea why, but it’s worked well for movie producers, Vegas hotels and jewelry makers.

Of course it doesn’t affect us here though. “We few, we happy few….”

No it doesn't have any influence in my case, but a nice ambassador is always better than someone embarrassing.

To some they do while to few they don't. But overall I know brand ambassadors influence in a way.

I dare say that most of us on this forum are immune to brand ambassador influence. Most of us know a lot (or are learning a lot) about Rolex watches. We've done our homework. However, for the general public, trend-setters and taste-makers still hold a lot of sway.

I bought my Omega Seamaster as my first nice watch because of Casino Royale. It worked on me.

Not sure he would be considered a, 'Brand Ambassador', but Steve McQueen is still, posthumously promoting 'brands' 40-odd years after he left us. Persol, Barbour etc, so I suppose it does work.

I suppose I was 'influenced' by Kelly and Scotty, in the 60's, as I bought my first GMT a few years later.
