Canada opens it's borders on Aug 8.

Actually make that Aug 9th. (I miscalculated the exchange rate)

Brian get TheVTCGuy's room ready....

Well not quite “open” … fully vacc’d and a negative PCR test but it’s a start. Also have to upload all your info to a gov’t app prior to arrival … of which I can’t possibly see any hiccups with given their track record….

I have been going back and forth all along very cumbersome and expensive on the Canadian side. Last time required 3 COVID tests. The last one on zoom with a nurse. Drove this last time to avoid sitting at the airport hotel for 3 days. Only to find they didn’t want me driving in Canada with my own Florida tagged car.

We are too … might even have to cancel ours for Sept, they definitely aren’t making it easy or cheap… we’re almost out $1k just in tests for the 2 of us.. let alone rental car shortages and the fact that you could still possibly test positive (fully vacc’d) then the logistics get messy to say the least.

I think I’ll pass all the jumps and hoops and sit tight .
Let others deal with it that are more courageous…

Probably smart.... I don't see anything here drastically changing before Winter Holliday season or an Election whichever comes first.......

Yep, too many hoops and variables that potentially could be a huge problem should things go sideways.
This is currently for fully vaccinated US residents only, but there is provision to include other international travellers beginning September also.
Funny thing is, no real plan in place, and very little detailed info to follow currently!
I don't believe the feds have really placed any real thought on this, and have no doubt what ever is said this week, will change multiple times over before things are ever functioning with real intent.
World wide, this will be a slow and broken return to something perhaps not even close to what we were all use to pre covid. Sadly.

The ap has worked well and easy for me. No problems. They did call from time to time.

In Florida any way we found a service that sends a tech out to the house to administer the test. Cost more but it’s so much easier. I’m sure they would come out to your hotel or wherever it is you would be staying at. Just makes it more convenient.

Interesting that’s an option for sure States side. However we do have some limited options while in Maui. I’ve heard there is no guarantee you will get your results within the window you need to leave (due resources/demand and geography) Also the testing requirements for the HI gov’t are very specific to outbound pre testing companies 2 choices for Ontario. Hence my trepidation. The arrive app I’m not too worried about since dissolving the hotel issue returning to Canada plus they can’t refuse a citizen entry. It’s the possibility of having to quarantine on arrival on the US based on incomplete paperwork or CBP discretion despite jumping through all the hoops. Staring at the beach through a window for 10 days might not be the best vacation.

I’m completely shocked!!! I haven’t have a chance to use it because you can’t pre load any of your information till your 72hrs prior. Nothing CBSA does seems uniform or logical so that completely surprises me. I thought for sure it would crash the moment it went live on the 5th

So I need to get a pcr before crossing the land border into Canada even though I’m fully vax?

Hmm might not be worth it in that case.

Yah I'm pretty sure that's how it's gonna work unfortunately. Lots of controversy over it up here right now... There's a Federal election in the making and I would bet the rules are gonna stay stricter than looser till the election is announced/over.

I live right on the border so we cross for a few hours and come home regularly, or at least we use to.

Looks like if I’m going to spend 300+ on pcrs for all I better book a hotel or something to make it worth it. Or just wait it out longer. It’s been almost 18 months for us which is bonkers because we normally go once a month.

WNY and southern Ontario are two separate countries but really one region. Many of us who live on the border cross over for simple things like lunch or shopping etc.

I’m a bit disappointed in my own government for not also opening the US border to Canadians. I never dreamed Canada would let us in before we let Canadians in.

Wonderful news!!

Our last trip outside of the U.S. about a month pejorative to the start of covid last year was a ski trip with 3 families to Mont-Tremblant on Quebec. We had a great time though it was do cold!!

Maybe take a weekend trip to Montreal before the end of the summer

Nail on the head!!!!
I jump over every other week … more often when the exchange is better. I love road tripping on the bike in UNY especially in the cattaragus’. I’m also really dying for Mighty Taco and a HayStack from the Silo in Queenston.
My grandmother passed away in Dec in MI another Covid casualty and it’s been a royal pain to deal with her estate which is now my parents’ with the restrictions. I know some people have it worse but it was definitely hard on our family when she was hospitalized.

Sorry to hear about your gram. I had dinner in Lewiston tonight actually a stones throw from the silo and frankly a tee shot from the border.

If you ride in Niagara on the lake much grab food at either oast house or counterpart brewing. Oast has a bbq shack that’s out of this world and counterpart is putting out amazing food (fried chicken sandwich is amazing but really all their food rocks). This is all assuming nothings changed in 18 months haha

Thank you sir, appreciated.
Also those are amazing tips on eats I'm definitely checking those out... I like your style!!!! thank you. Our NOTL isn't quite the same.... although got some great shots of Niagara Falls was able to sneak my bike up against the barrier/sidewalk .... since it was empty which is insane and will probably never happen again in my lifetime... had to watch for the Park Narc's they were everywhere.

Early on in the shutdown we went on the JetBoat tour on our side. We were allowed 8 passengers on our boat due to COVID restrictions. There were only 6 on our tour ... as good as private since we were 4 of them. The boats pass each other on the River USA/Canada and they say "wave to the sister boats" there was 40 people on the US boats..... It was the perfect comparison of what was happening.

We love biking in the Niagara region. Stopping at Whirlpool golf course to eat, got some nice pics too right at the edge of the falls. Was sad riding through seeing everything closed up, coming back and forth from a place that’s totally open I kept thinking how bad it was for these business owners and how totally unnecessary. Just like being in a different world.

Absolutely!!! The parkway is a gorgeous ride especially on bikes!!! Gorgeous scenery and crazy homes.

Yah I took a few pics of Clifton Hill and you couldn’t throw a rock and hit someone if you tried. Stopped in at a Starbucks in one of the hotels. Gave the barista a big tip because I was probably gonna be one of the only customers that day… super sad to see. Not to mention the road in front of the casino was closed for roadwork like when would that ever happen?
