Incoming Speedy 3861 Hesalite

My Rolex AD lost its status a couple months ago so I decided to take some money from the watch fund and finally pick up a Speedy Pro.

Ordered it sight unseen, so opening the box was fun. In the past I’d compared 1861 Speedys with hesalite and sapphire side by side, and as much as I like the durability of sapphire and the display back, the warmth and reflections of the hesalite always won me over. So no question this would be the hesalite. Here are some pics:

A few thoughts:
-Wears small for a 42mm. Bracelet drops right off the lugs so I think that helps.
-I like the stepped dial - really comes out in different lighting
-I put a small scuff on the hesalite on my first day wearing it. Better order some Polywatch…
-Sizing the bracelet was a pain. It doesn’t use screws like Rolex. It uses screw caps and a pin between them. Lot of work to adjust.
-I’m not impressed by the bracelet. The Seamaster 300 bracelet is very heavy and solid, a little too much for my tastes. The pendulum swung a little too far in the other direction on the new Speedy bracelet. Sure it’s light and comfy, but it sounds and feels a little flimsy. The clasp is machined nicely, but in person it’s way smaller than in pics. It’s not a bad bracelet, but it doesn’t hold a candle to a Rolex bracelet.
-The chrono pushers have a great feel.

Overall happy with it so far. I’m interested to play around with different straps. I have an Artem sailcloth on order from Australia and I think that will work nicely.

Congrats! It looks gorgeous. I have not seen the new bracelet yet but it looks like it has a nice taper to the clasp.

Congratulations. I second the Forstner bracelet recommendation. The Flat Link is the one for me and it solves the bracelet problem. Enjoy.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Forstner. I’ll check that out.

Edit: According to Forstner’s website the flat link bracelet won’t fit on the 3861 Speedy pro. They are working on new end links.

Here’s a little hesalite distortion for the morning. It’s really cool.

Incredibly popular model.
I keep looking and looking over and over at the Hesalite at the Omega site.
Polywatch is an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G product. Took the scratches right off my year 1987 Oyster Perpetual Date and the crystal appears as new.

Given that the 3861 movement is identical in both the hesalite and sapphire versions, I’m curious to see if OEM sapphire case backs turn up for sale. I’d probably pick one up in the future. If a high quality 3rd party option came out I’d consider that too.

That stinks! It’s a beautiful look on the speedy

Added an Artem sailcloth strap to the Speedy. I considered the Omega cordura OEM but the cost is pretty high, especially when paired with the deployant. Also, the Omega seems to have some leather accents and I need waterproof straps.

Did some research and it seemed like the Artem was the best aftermarket sailcloth strap. Pretty happy with it.

Thanks for the images, that strap is fantastic. I am looking at their website now.

Yeah it’s a very well made strap. They modeled it after the Blancpain sailcloth and reviews i read say they are pretty comparable. My only nitpick is that I chose the quick-release spring bars and on my 7” wrist the angle the strap makes with the case is acute enough that the “bulbs” of the quick release are visible. You can see one if you look closely at the top photo. If I had to do it again I’d go with traditional spring bars.
