SHOWTIME..Shotani!!!

Its already been said by many, this guy Shohei Ohtani from Japan may well be the best baseball player the game has ever seen pull on some cleats!!!

OK he is still very young and has a long way to go, but he is being compared by many to Babe Ruth for crying out loud!

30 home runs already this season.
He's a pitcher with a 100 mile per hour fast ball and over 100 home runs in his MLB pro career.
He steals bases like a jewel thief on steroids.....

The dude is 6' 4".

If Rolex were smart they would grab this guy with both hands as an ambassador for his inspiration to us all for his outstanding qualities.

I wish the guy could speak some English. If he could the fans would go even more crazy for this guy.
If it wasn't for this confounded COVID19 I'd be over and going to the game just to see this guy (OK Mike Trout might be another reason).

Just today, Showtani scored 2 home runs and grabbed home plate in a walk off 9th innings against the Baltimore Orioles.

He is such an incredibly skilled baseball player, athlete and humble human being.

He will be staring the the All Star Game and the Home Run Derby this month.

GET IN NOW BEFORE ITS TOO LATE

Could you persuade him to come to Oz and play for Essendon Steve?

J desperately needs a win.

I can only hope he can keep it up. Great story so far this season.

To be fair, the Yankees DESTROYED him while he was pitching in the first inning. Too bad they had to still play eight other innings against the rest of the team.

That's true Ohtani did have a bad pitching game (or should I say innings), about his only 1 for the season. But when the guy isn't firing with his pitches he more than makes up for it with the bat.

He's a fantastic ambassador for the game, such a humble and polite personality.

Reminds me of what Charlton Heston once said about Toshiro Mifune: “My God, what a presence! If he could act in English, he would conquer the world.”

In the modern game where people seem to specialize this kid is absolutely incredible. A very distant 2nd in my era might have been Rick Ankiel due to a combination of the yips, injuries, etc.. but I've never seen anything close to 'Shotani'. Definitely enjoy/appreciate the show while it lasts because I can't see how his body will hold up doing dual duty for more than a few years....

I like Ohtani a lot and think he’s a great ambassador for the game, but before we crown him lets see if he can get the Angels to the Playoffs. As it stands they’re still a ball club below .500

Wins matter, it’s the one albatross around Trout’s neck.

Like Babe Ruth, Shotani may give up his pitching. He is certainly putting on quite a show this year. Great job.

I’ll be going to a few angels games over the next couple weeks. Can’t wait to see him in person. The guy is a horse.

Just wish Trout would come off the DL as well.

Great photo, you are so lucky. I see you managed to sneak in that Jubilee too

I think that makes it 32 home runs so far for the season. The guy pitched yesterday, did a great job.

You can't put the responsibility upon 1 player to get a team into the playoffs, but fingers crossed the Angels will make it this year. Unfortunately, Mike Trout had a calf injury that was a huge loss for the Angels.

Quick Ohtani (which is an incorrect spelling, btw); A couple years again, my Nisei wife, my 6 year-old son and I were at Angel Stadium to watch a game when we happened upon a huge Ohtani cardboard cut out. My son wanted to take a picture next to it, so he stood right next to it. Just at that time, a group of Japanese (presumably tourists) walked by. One of the women says, “Amerikajin demo kara tsuki desu!” My son looked at her and responded, “Chigaimasu, boku wa Nihonjin desu.” They were astonished, as he doesn’t necessarily look half Japanese. Oh, what was the exchange about? The woman said, “Even Americans like him,” referring to Ohtani. My son’s response; “You’re mistaken…..I’m Japanese.” My boy is actually a bigger Mike Trout fan.

I was worried he wouldn’t play being it was an early start Day game after having just pitched the day before. Lucky for us he did.

I hope once trout comes back the angels go on a run. These two guys need to be in the postseason.

Great to see some Ohtani appreciation here. I am not an Angels fan but love watching him, Trout and Rendon. Hope Ohtani can stay healthy!

Dontcha mean Rendon stay healthy, on his 3rd IL visit? Here’s hoping that $245M contract works out a bit better than Pujols’s for the Halos. I don’t think this is gonna age well.

Hi Russell. Ha, yeah, that is a worry, but I’m just not as emotionally invested in Rendon as I am Ohtani! I’m a Dodgers fan. I know Ohtani can hit all day long, but who knows how long his right elbow can hold up, after Tommy John surgery a few years back and then last year’s false start. Very lucky to see him do what he does.

Ohtani in the "Home Run Derby" tomorrow (Monday 12 July at 8pm ET (Colorado)).

Its going to be huge!!!! Watch on TV or stream on internet

Get your mit out to catch those fly balls!!!

I bet no one here has ever caught a fly ball at a MLB game?

Ohtani the only guy in MLB history to be voted into the All Star Team as both a pitcher and a batter!!!
