Why the hate for Hublot lack of screw alignment, but not Cartier?

Lots of mention for the former, but I've never seen it bought up once for the latter....any reason?

Probably because Hublot invokes a guttural reaction by many here-- a general dislike of the brand, if you will.

I don't own one, but think their watches, misaligned screws and all, are fine.

Same reason that, in our sexist world, men are "assertive" while women are "bossy." When we have a low opinion of someone because of their gender (brand) we find ways to see everything in a negative light.

The difference is that women deserve to be seen/treated/paid/respected equally, while Hublot will always be a third-rate watch .

The screws being like that are part of the Cartier "thing". It's not supposed to be aligned, from memory.

Hate is a strong word, dislike for asymmetry runs rife in WIS-world.

I don’t think either brand warrants screw heads will align in any particular fashion.

It’d be better if they used double hex screws. Harder to argue about.

If Hublot do the alignment gig then haters will start another wave of accusations Hublot copy AP... Why no one hate AP PP Rolex for copying Hublot using rubber strap?

Mob mentality and group think. People jump on the popular opinion and pile on. Nickelback isnt a terrible band for instance there are far worse and less successful bands yet when an example for a bad rock band is needed everyone is ready to pounce.

I think it is because Hublot feels like such a copy pasta from RO bezel, so people assume there should be symmetry like on RO. Santos since its creation had random screws and they were "functional" rather than for show.

The people who care about the screws are pathethic to be honest. That's nitpicking about nothing. Aligned or not, I don't mind.

Are Hublot trying to pretend that the case screws down?

I think Hublot has a number of cool designs. Maybe not yet "timeless", but if you like it, you like it. Not everyone "needs" to wear a Rolex or AP.

As for the screws and peoples' reactions, anything touching Hublot usually gets a negative reaction on online forums (see the "mob mentality" mentioned above).

I thought the ADLC would help to "disguise" the lack of conformity of the screws, but I was wrong. After a short stint, I had to let mine go. So for me, screws alignment can be an eyesore.

In all fairness.. only WIS has a love hate relationship with Hublot.. 99% of the general public look at Hublot as a luxurious item just like AP and PP.

Because of selective outrage. People hate Hublot for "copying" the RO. Nobody has issues with Patek hiring Genta to riff off his RO design to create the Nautilus. I guess Hublot should have thrown some money at Genta to create their RO-inspired design; this would have the community widely accept their offering.

Also, real screws are a nightmare to align. In case anyone wants some quick reading:

Only watch enthusiasts on the forums hate Hublot. A normal person with some money and relative knowledge of watches takes pride in wearing a Hublot… especially their Big Bangs which are similar looking to a super duper expensive watch company.

I feel the same about misaligned screws regardless of brand ……… not acceptable. Catches my eyes and ruins the symmetry of the watch.

Yes, the (non-aligned) H-pattern screws in the bezel are used to attach the bezel to the case, here is a diagram showing the construction:

In contradictory, I always thought those screws on my APs are fake and useless because they are too aligned and it is not a natural norm of how mechanic works.

Pretty much sums it up. I looked at a few Hublot pieces - solid inhouse movements and great modern designs. People love AP RO today, but like Daytona the reference did not skyrocket to stardom overnight.

They are aligned only because they are not screws at all, they're just caps.

Lol.. I align the screws on my electric switches at home so on Hublot - that would bug me. Particularly because they started off as a cheaper AP knockoff.

It might be hypocritical of me to give Cartier a pass but they have their own design language and it’s always been an element of the brand.

Because Hublot is butt cheeks and Cartier isn’t that’s why.

The screw alignment is not why Hublot is disliked by WIS! However, to be fair, I dislike the Royal Oak and RM as well. Still, I can understand the Royal Oak and possibly RM, even though I'd never personally buy any of them. The Santos isn't my thing either but I appreciate the history.

Seconded (thirded?)

And most people who dislike Hublot have no idea why, simply because some other people do. I was the same, until I tried one on Great watches and at a much more accessible price point than AP/RM

I'd debate that. Look at any Hublot review article or video and there are people in the comments upset about the screws not aligning and with comments along the lines of "why can't they even align the screws on such an expensive watch". But you never see the same on Cartier articles

That looks awesome

I've been looking at a few of the Skeleton Dial options lately, feel like that would fill a gap in my collection.

May I ask which model yours is?

Cartier has so much more going for it than Hublot. Cartier is class.
