Real or fake rolex found under a lake?

This rolex a more items were found underwater and were recently auctioned. I wanted to bid but I thought it was a fake and did not want to risk money. It has since been sold for 3k and was wondering if I missed my opportunity or if it was actually a fake. Thanks in advance, here is a link to the auction:

The Rolex is definitely fake. You didn't miss an opportunity, you dodged a bullet.

Good thing the police extracated the watch from the body before the auction. I'm assuming all that 'gold' was to weigh the body down.

Haha my bad. I knew something was off when I was typing it. And yeah just a quick google search got me thinking it was fake and I also found it sketchy that the police department didn’t get it appraised to get a lot more money for it.

yup auction ended at 3.4k and with taxes they ended up paying 3.7k+. There was a lot more jewelry included in the auction though so I don't know if they were bidding for other pieces.

Anyone who paid 3.7k for that without handling it all and checking hallmarks must be hoping the Rolex is real. There's some silver and possibly a small amount of low grade gold, but going by the 'quality' of the watches, I'd wager it's mostly junk/costume jewlery.

fake shouldn't be on any auction platform. All auction platform should have an expert vettor.

The bottom of a lake is the perfect place for that abomination.
