Had a friend who did similar with a Dodge Viper; ran it off the road and into desert tearing up the bottom of the car pretty badly on a new car. At any rate, ouch!

Thank goodness for engineers, modern safety gear, etc. One of my friends died at the track in the Porsche Deathmobile (?GT2?) that seemed to kill a lot of drivers.

I’ve seen a few at the drag strip that make you wonder how a yone survived, much less got up and walked away. The structural safety designs are nothing short of amazing.

I’m not familiar with a tubbed Porsche in the modern era that was dubbed that way. The original 935 had a “widowmaker” rep due to driver induced TTO by uneducated owners lifting in curves as they realized too late that they were going too fast.

In my years of race officiating I served as a Safety Steward for several years and had to handle fatal or near-fatal incidents with drivers I knew.

David was fortunate it was an “endo” he had. The HANS also did its job. Had it been a rotisserie roll that’d be another story.
