The Co-ax implementation on the Calibre 8500s and 9300s with big PRs of 60 hrs have definitely resulted in some pretty thick cases, especially as Omega insists on putting display back on many of the models.

Is it a new movement? Or just a re-numbered 8500? I like the blue dial.

It is the basic 8500 movement with the added GTM complication, ergo a new calibre number.

I don't have am Omega yet but a PO GMT could sway me! I like GMT watches but I do wish it was 42 mm and a bit thinner. I have enough 44 and 45 mm watches.

I like it but as always Omega has poor arse taste when it comes to clashing a black date wheel on a blue dial. Infuriates me to no end. Still, I love the ceramics but can't do the thickness. It's way over the top. Last gen POs with a ceramic bezel would be perfect.

Being a PO owner, I love the new color. It stands out as unique without being too crazy looking.

Nice, but...
It has some nice features, nice movement, etc..., but I still think the older GMT's are better looking... Call me out of touch, but I don't appreciate the new GMT.
These older ones are well under 2,000, and would be my choice if I was looking for a Omega with the GMT complication:

Just for clarification sake, the Planet Ocean line has, since its inception used orange as a contrasting colour. Seconds hands have always been in orange, an orange bezel/black dial option, and an orange numerals, black bezel option have always been available, right since 2006. Omega did not use a time machine to "copy the colour orange" from the re-issued EXP2, then use it on the Planet Ocean in 2006, its the colour the PO has always used.
Secondly, this is one of four colour schemes the Planet Ocean GMT is available in. This blue model is blue to fit with Goodplanet, Omega's partner for this special edition. The other colours are Black bezel with polished silver numerals, black bezel with anodised orange numerals, and orange bezel with orange numerals. Most people will likely go for the black bezel / silver numerals as its the most neutral. All of these models feature an orange GMT hand, along with an orange second hand, as has every other PO model since forever. The size is a middle ground between the 42mm of the PO and 45.5mm of the POXL. Its an interesting middle ground option that probably makes more sense than making a 42 and 45.5 varient of all 4 different GMT models all over again, reducing the number of different models in the line a dealer might have to carry. Below are the other three models:

No it's not. A dive watch needs a proper timing bezel. It's not enough to have a triangle marker, you need the minute indicators too. After 15 minutes on this watch, the hand is pointing at the six, and that's if you don't confuse it with the GMT hand. Sure, anyone can adapt, but it makes no sense to have 600M, an HEV and then compromise the most useful function of a dive watch. This is my biggest complaint of this watch - it's really great at nothing.

I own and like both Rolex and Omega, and try to be open minded, but some of Omega's recent models leave me scratching my head. In particular the 'confused' PO GMT and the 'Milgauss homage' 15000GAUSS. Two big let downs for me. |

The Explorer II does not have a quick-set date either, nor does the GMT IIc for that matter. Rolex has not done a quick-set on a GMT since the 16700, which stopped production in 1999.
So in both the Exp II and the Omega GMT, you need to adjust the date by rapid advancement of the hour hand, whcih can be adjusted independently of the time (i.e. adjusting the hour hand does not hack the seconds hand so timekeeping accuracy is maintained).

It really is a brilliant piece, they needed to come out with a strong GMT offering and IMO they've nailed it.

If the datewheel would be blue/orange font I'd be running to the Omega AD.

Went into the Omega Boutique on 5th Ave in NY yesterday and was able to try on the new GMT. It is a thick watch, but it is a nice size. I really like it, but I question why the MSRP is almost $2,000 higher than the regular PO. It is $200 less expensive with the rubber strap, which I prefer. It does come in a very nice wooden box.
