Everything has a price
Watches, cars, wines, even records, sell over rrp
luxury stuff more so

Pokémon cards even

If you want something, and can afford it, what's the problem? Nobody gets hurt. We do fuss over this. It's not really a philosophy or moral issue we need to worry about. Some people wait forever, go without, others pay!?

I never buy from a grey. But if I wanted one and I couldn’t get one in a ‘reasonable’ timescale, then yes I would. Life is too short

In my opinion, “real price” is what you’re ready to pay for. Less or more from retail, doesn’t matter...

Ofcourse everything has a price and we all pay for things we value. The question is what do you value?

Based on the responses here people don’t value the 5711 enough to pay the massive premium.

I might get flamed for this, but the 5711 is probably the most over-hyped and run of the mill watch you can get right now. I handled one and passed on it- not because of the price. I just wouldn't really enjoy wearing a 5711.

1: It looks pretty ordinary in person. The watch comes across as flimsy (especially the bracelet). Non WIS people wouldn't take a second look. Nice yes, amazing no. RRP nice I guess.
2: Just like Rolex SS models, they are not rare, there are literally heaps in existence. They're hard to buy at the moment, but that wasn't always the case.
3: You can get better watches for what the asking price is on the grey market.
4: The Nautilus models with complications are all better IMO and if you were going to go down this path, consider those as well.
Echo this. Was really shocked at the feel of the bracelet. Was expecting something...more. Maybe after hearing and seeing all the hype it got built up in my head.

Don't think I could live with myself if I did it. Similar train of thought as Tom pointed out above.

It's a great time only ss piece, but 30k is already pushing it, imo.

Another no from me, but I don't particularly like the Nautilus. Hanging out here for a while created a temporary doubt in my mind that I needed one until I got my Rolex back from service.

Ah come on, you do get something more with the Nautilus: those flabby "love handles" on either side of the case :-)

I have one. And there's NO WAY I'd pay anything other than the prevailing list price for it.

It's just not that nice.

It was too steel grey for me to pull the trigger at a small discount a few years ago. Soft bracelet also made me want to go gold. Now no way, Pedro!

As you said end of 2021 its not impossible we have a downturn/correction this winter/Spring then the rebuild starts again next summer, and with SM so prevalent anything can get hypebeasted up pretty sharp, but seems unlikely we will get back to any higher than now.

I know. There were a few Yes, but I think 85%+ were no.

The same pattern was there 2 years ago when the 5711 hit $40k at the end of 2017...all the nos were there too.

no chance. it feels like a $25k watch when you wear it, so I would feel terrible owning it. Same thing with the daytona, it simply does not feel like a $25k watch on the wrist, so I wouldn't pay above msrp for it.

to follow up on this post. Ive gotten rid of alot of the hype watches this year due to this feeling. I couldnt help every time I put on my aquanaut that I bought for 19k now had a value of 35-40k. the watch just doesnt feel like its worth more than 15-20k (theres a reason they were going for that not long ago). Sticking to my trusty SubC and DaytonaC, got them for msrp and they feel great. Ill get rid of the daytona if it gets above 35.

btw dont take my advice, i burn alot of money in other places (cars)

I have the cash and the answer is no. Absolutely no way I'm paying over $20k above retail for it, or any watch.

No.
We buy a watch partly to reflect how we perceive ourselves. It isn't just a utilitarian object. I do not want to be THAT guy.
